Try a Google search for the app ‘Audiowagon’. It’s designed for Android Auto and woks with the newer Volvos allowing you to use a USB in the car (albeit within certain parameters). It’s free to download and his webpage gives all the instructions. Good luck!
All those voice controls mentioned are available under sensus… wonder what extras are available… i cant open my sun roof for example via voice ![]()
You can ask Google to tell you a joke, what more could you want?? You can’t send directions from the app to the car anymore though😒
Will have to try that one! We can turn on the heated seats, play Radio 1 etc.
Some good progress thanks to @Bozz88
The AudioWagon app is ideal. I got it working with a small USB. The ‘limitation’ is that it needs the USB formatted as FAT32. I can do the smaller drive, but a larger one doesn’t show that as a format option. More digging needed!
Both Tidal and Radio Paradise are now working as expected ![]()
Edit: Had to download a third-party tool, but my drive is now formatted, and files are being copied over.
Interestingly, AudioWagon doesn’t seem to have a limit on number of files (well, the FAQ suggests a theoretical limit of 160k).
Glad that worked for you. It has some irritations when you start the car up, as he explains on the website, but you get used to it!
FAT32 max partition size is 2TB.
Edit: oops, just saw your edit - ignore this
Like what? Ideally I’d just want it to carry on playing where it left off. I pretty much leave it on random over all tracks.
You just have to click through a bogus Volvo error message and be sure you’ve followed his instructions about setting indexing. If you overlook the latter it takes a while. Also, you probably won’t remove the USB, but if you don’t actually eject it, it corrupts. I think that’s all😀
Thank you for some guidance, have been looking for a solution in my C40 for weeks - Volvo forums not much use and the manual just tells me no, not happening.
Having ripped ca 100 CDs to a portable SSD I’m hoping my time wasnt wasted. Off to seek out Audiowagon
Audio Wagon has worked very well for me over recent weeks. There are a couple of pop-ups to click through on starting nut I think there’s a way to get rid of those (if I can be bothered).
Many thanks for the heads up - i bought a 1TB Sandisk SSD to use in both my Volvo C40 and with the ND5XS2.
Of course i formatted exFAT thinking that would be fine for both systems. Now reformatting the SSD with third party app into FAT32, to suit Volvo’s archaic design philosophy.
I was just popping back to mention the need to format it as FAT32 ![]()
Yes, reformatted to FAT32 (using EaseUS utility).
Transferred about a dozen albums across 7 artists onto the drive and tried in the Volvo - a variety of messages from Drive not recognised, allow access to drive, then not able to read. A minute later an egg timer appeared suggesting it was reading the contents, but nothing apparent after 10 minutes.
Perhaps i need to alter the file structure to better suit the Volvo - currently set as per WMP default burning, so
Artist
Album
Tracks
Would it be easier using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, just a thought, I had similar issues, admitted defeat in the end, life’s too short.
You could well be right there.
I use spotify in the the car anyway, so could argue the SSD is some what surplus
Try going into the settings in Audio Wagon and do a manual scan.
My structure is the same so that shouldn’t be the problem. What file type are you using? Have a look at the online Audi Wagon documentation to see if there’s a restriction on file type. FLAC works fine for me.
Think i found my issue in the AudioWagon online notes…
- SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is not supported, because it behaves differently than most regular USB flash drives
I bought one of these…
1TB with both USB A&C connections (car has C, computer needs A). It was almost £100 but it has plenty of capacity and is tiny in size.
SanDisk 1TB Ultra Dual Drive Luxe USB Type-C Flash Drive all-metal with reversible USB Type-C and USB Type-A connectors, for smartphones, tablets, Macs and computers.
