oh well - when I heard a system with a Vitus amp it just did not have the engagement I am used to with Naim for Rock music…
WELL I AM TOTALLY CONFUSED NOW
I have always tried to be as honest as i can and tell things now i see it or hear it, so here we go
As you might have read i was a bit taken with the sia025 and after a little swap back yesterday it just about convinced me the naim was gone.
Well after a few replies saying i need to give the naim set up a bit more help lets say, well this afternoon i have done just that, i used some off my spare rack bits and got them nicely set up, the cables probably the best they have ever been, as i can get to them much better and as i have spaced the boxes out much more, the cables are just much better, not touching anything etc. Plus the naim has been powered on but not being used for a few days now, that also will help over the other day.
So this brings me to this, played 30 seconds of atrack on the vitus and then quickly removed the speaker cables and popped them into the naim and played the same 30 second track, now i was expecting to be disappointed like i was the other day, but in all honesty i couldn’t really tell much difference, so tryed other tracks, swapping the speaker cables back and fourth. Hardly any difference and some tracks i like the naim more and others the vitus.
So i am sitting here right now, not having a clue whats going on really, dont know if i have just never really had the naim quite right? I dont know if after all there is not much difference, i just dont know, as it has me beaten right now. Is it because i have moved my speaker’s about and now with the smaller rack they are in more air, i dont know.
But if you saw my front room right now it looks like aright mess, as i have one system in front off the other and wires everywhere, but it sound great which ever one i use.
I THINK I NEED HELP
Can you remember which one or when?
Hi Dunc…best to be honest, like you are doing. I wonder if a few pics from an iphone etc would help some people like @anon4489532 and others to get a better feel of what is going on.
Don’t panic… in your case doing nothing costs nothing, and you could even improve on what you already have with some better cables. Still a great thread Dunc. Peter
Fantastic Dunc! I’m lovin’ this thread, admiring your responses to everyone’s comments, understanding better how this forum group carries so many opinions, re-evaluating my future hifi path, and just hope you’re enjoying hearing music from two great amps (whilst faffing with all their setups)!
I think this just shows how much setup/cable management has an effect.
Relax and put a glass of wine in your hand and see what happens.
Try a test tonight doing the same with all lights off and curtains drawn. No distractions, just you and the music…
May I suggest you to stay away ( log out ) from the forum for a week.
Evaluate with a calm head and Your priorities for your music.
Go with what makes you happy.
Don’t listen to anyone else.

Age old advise… ( unsolicited …in this case)
Please involve your companion and talk…sharing the agony helps in reducing the agony.
I have been a silent spectator this far and you have my empathy.
+1
and why one might prefer the plug and play Vitus.
I have always found it impossible going back and forth. I usually have a playlist and listen to it fully rather than going back and forth.
If the dealer is in no rush I’d try a day or 2 with Vitus and then the same with Naim. It’s surprising what you hear when not listening critically.

It reminded me when you, Dunc, had tested the Nd555 at home and compared to your past Nds. You found very minimal differences.
With 552/500 dr, you should have found a clear step. I was thinking at that time that something is wrong with your 552/500 .
well it was a Vitus integrated - fronted by Naim NDS with sonus faber speakers
Before you say it was the speakers, I have heard many many Sonus speaker with Naim amps so I know what they sound like.
Agreed John
It’s a negative certainly for multiple boxes and wondering on off days if it’s due to this or that.
You can’t have it all a…
Yes, but also tried it on the dealers system and it didn’t do much for me then either, unlike the rossini on the same system just flew
Well you’ve got the Sia25 for two weeks so best to take your time. It’s funny how a system can sound different or can be perceived (not sure which is the case) to sound different from one listening session to another.
Don’t worry! I have no interest in “defending” either Naim or Vitus. Very happy with my Naim system…
Maybe its just me and my ears, but this hifi stuff at times is very complicated lol
The more i think about the cables involved in the 500 set up, the more i feel this could be the problem.
Like i said never been able to get them this good before and maybe thats my problem and one that i will need to try and address if i keep with it, or maybe just go with the simple solution that works?
Or it might have nothing to do with any of it and just be me
@Dunc Could you get some Super Lumina or some other top cables/interconnects for the 500 from your local dealer on demo. I know you have some WH Morgana but not sure how high up the ladder they are.
Best to cover all bases then you can be happy when you decide that you gave everything a fair chance to shine.
I agree I’m constantly confused when it comes to upgrading, choosing and comparing components and getting the best out of a system… Particularly when upgrading…
What we could do Dunc is give it all to me and I’ll independently review them and do a video for the system vids thread keeping everyone in the loop!
