Glad it wasn’t just me thinking that - my 981S sounds far better than any of these (on start at least).
Brilliant, but i’d go for the PDK gearbox anyway
This Is one of the few with a decent sound. I seem to prefer the exhaust with closed valves
I loved the old mechanically fuel injected 2.7, which sounded glorious - like a boot full of chainsaws at full chat. I could never get enough of it.
More recently I saw a video of a more recent 2.7 Porsche engine, in a Boxster, that was absolutely singing. IIRC it had a special exhaust with an X connection and it was glorious - up there with the best I’ve heard from anything.
Just watched a few old episodes of Lyndly cop show
I think it was a Jensen British car that they use to drive?
It looks pretty cool in true British fashion of the day
Do you know much about that car maker Richard ?
I don’t know the Lyndly show. Is it a Jensen Interceptor? I know the Jensen very well as I grew up with a couple of them owned by my father back in the early '70s - one blue, one a sort of dark blue/mauve colour. Unfortunately the first was written off in a smash on Hyde Park Corner and my abiding memory of the other was of it constantly overheating in traffic and breaking down. I spent a lot of the time sat in the back seats while waiting for the breakdown service to arrive on the M4!
Just done a google search and one of them looked just like this - same colours. Great looking car;
My 981 2.7 was really good as well
It’ s Indeed an Interceptor
Excellent taste in those formative teenage years!
That’s the one Richard
Fantastic looking car in its day and even today I reckon
Wonder whatever happen to that company
I cannot remember in order, but yes, a Jensen, not sure if that was in the books. Also a Bristol and a Bentley.
Jensen as was went bust after making 6000 or so Interceptors. The fuel price rise of the early 70s I believe.
There is a company that bought all the tooling and makes body parts still.
I’ve watched repeats of The Protectors just for the interceptor!
My Uncle who lived in the UK had one, 7.2 litres IIRC, it was the first time as a child that I experienced acceleration and torque that pushed you back in the seat although probably pretty slow by todays standards. He owned a garage and also sourced a convertible version in canary yellow for my cousin which was imported in to Ireland for her in the early 70’s. Beautiful cars.
Ran an electric Kona for 4 years, 32k miles. Totally sold on an EV for what I need a car for. So why swap it for a f82 M4 competition? Erm, still not totally sure, but just getting into it and starting it up is amazing 8)
Planning on keeping it for a couple of years, and then swapping back for another EV, possibly an i4 40. But for the moment enjoying the theatre, and soundtrack.
Well, after this post the Audi GT RS was supposed to be delivered last Monday, the week before I was away golfing in Spain when I received call saying that getting the car ready for delivery there was an incident and it now needs some attention, the guys wouldn’t tell me why but got the impression it had been in a slight bump. Maybe someone was playing too hard in it. Any way, I was delieved a car I wouldn’t ordinarily enjoy, a Mercedes GLE coupe PHEV. Its actually a really lovely thing. I have this until the Audi is fixed, I was told a few weeks.
We are actually driving from Scotland to the East Mids for Christmas so its probably a better car than the GT for that family trip.
Update to this and the earlier replies.
I actually ordered a Ring, together with a new pressure gauge, online. For some unknown reason it was delivered to an address about 12 miles away, no similarity to road name or house number. The supplier accepted this and gave a refund, the tracker on the courier van showed it had never been anywhere near us.
Feeling a bit insecure as I was about to make a trip I found the Bosch shown above at a price lower than anywhere else. Couldn’t find a gauge anywhere locally.
Easy to set and use, all four tyres at 33 psi, my old gauge showed 35 psi. So I had a rummage round, found dearly beloved’s Goodyear and an AA rebranded one. These are all the old tubular piston type. All showed 35psi! I had a chat at the dealer, tyres and valves checked. They felt the old ones were about 1 psi high.
Then, on the way home, Lidl had this
It agrees with the Bosch.
I had a 991.1 GT3 for 7 years and wanted to love the PDK but great though it was I sold it as my other car was erm, manual
Very nice indeed. Much better looking than the later G82 version.
