What are you driving and why would we be interested?

I always have a spare clutch cable after mine broke 150 miles from home. Only one crunched gear all the way home. :slightly_smiling_face:

Both very capable apparently, i choose the GB40 in case i need to help someone else out with a boost, but not a good time of year to buy one right now; was 20 quid less just a month ago! :upside_down_face:

When I got the GB20 I also bought at the same time this little multimeter to test the battery and it has a multitude of other uses. Quite handy as well.

Debs, I’m not sure whether your car is diesel or petrol or what size is the engine. However, I had to buy a Noco for similar reasons and I found that their effectiveness was less than suggested by the published information. I had to try three of increasing output before it would reliably start a 1995 litre BMW 3 series diesel - it was the GB55X which supposedly has an output of 1750A. The lower output ones were supposed to start medium size diesel engines but couldn’t. I suspect that using them in the winter when the car has been sitting in the cold and damp for a while requires a higher power output.

thanks for sharing your experience of NOCO.

My Celica is a 1.8L petrol which gets used at least once a week so the battery never gets completely drained, just not enough to start the engine in the coldest winter times. It probably won’t be much of a challenge for the Booster.

The GB40 i ordered via Amazon last night has arrived here already, and i will find out tomorrow how it works out, i am fairly confident due to reviews of so many satisfied uses. :slightly_smiling_face: :crossed_fingers:

Pasenger door lock on my 5 year old 320i has failed. BMW charging me £500 to replace/fix it!!!

I asked them if this is common. ‘No, not really…’ he said.

Seems a bit grim on a five year old car. ‘Yes, it’s unfortunate…’ he said.

Thought about going to an independent but BM already charging me for initial investigative time…And even an indi seems to be about £300+ all in.

Think that’s a bit sh.. on a 5 year old car.

Probably actuator has ceased and a common issue. Unfortunate that’s the ongoing rate, Jamie, to have it fixed. Bad luck.

Indeed, expected lifespan of these is apparently 15-20 years though. Grrr.

I find it amazing that manufacturers such as Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volvo, VW, Land Rover and many more can get away with only offering 3 year warranties, yet Lexus, Suzuki, Toyota offer 10 years and even other European brands like Citroën and Peugeot 8yrs.

Some of the these 3 yr warranties are unlimited mileage, others limited to 100k or 60k. Bottom of the table is Jeep; 3yrs and max 36k.

Yes and I have had a couple of niggles with it over the years. So not overly impressed with BM.

Before this, I had 7 years with a Mazda 6, 14 years with two ST220’s and 3 years with a Celica, all from new too and apart from expected wear and tear, the only issue I can remember having is the brake pipes having to be replaced on my 2nd Mondeo when it was ten years old! Which I thought was fair enough…

Before the Celica all my cars had a few years on them, immediately before it I had an Alfa 164 3.0, which was surprisingly OK in retrospect, bar the electrics, which could be a little on the independent side. Before the Alpha, a Manta and an Ascona. Never had a door refuse to open before now though…Perhaps it just doesn’t want my wife to get in.

No doubt cars are far more reliable than they used to be, but, as your example amply demonstrates, they are also far more expensive to fix.

Maybe ask them if there could be a “contribution “ from BMW uk. I had similar out of warranty issues with Audi and they were very reasonable. I had to politely push though. Managed to get a six year old driver’s seat replaced FOC

Totally unrelated James but I had an experience with Audi recently that made me vow never to go back to that particular dealership ever again.

I turned up to pick up my car from a service, and was happy to see it was already sitting outside ready to go. Reporting to reception I was told to take a seat. 35 minutes later (and after two trips back to reception to remind them I was still waiting), someone finally called me over to a desk to hand over my keys so I could drive away.

I wouldn’t have minded except I was the only customer waiting to pick up a car, and I had already spotted that the girl who gave me my keys had spent the previous half hour looking at her phone or walking around chatting to colleagues. Clearly her time was more important than mine!

I must say their service standards over the years is pretty good. And when a previous couple of issues came up post warranty and I suggested that seemed a bit unreasonable, they agreed and did one free and another half price.

This just smarts a bit.

The same thing happened to my 8 month old X1. Took it straight round the nearest dealer and they repaired it for the next day. Ever since I’ve checked the rear doors before leaving.
