Heather Newman, Burn Me Alive. CD.

@NigelB recommended another album from Heather Newman yesterday or the day before and it stirred my interest. First listen, and I’m hooked after 2 tracks.

Mahler. Symphony No3. Bernstein/New York Phil.

This may be the first time I’ve posted a classical music album. Favourite of mine but I’m not knowledgeable enough to say how this compares with other versions.

Add to that the BBC 1971 In Concert version also on the Early Years box set. Always used to love the added raunch to parts of that back off the old bootleg versions.

Good spot Doc. Forgot that one!

George Harrison - Pirate Songs, pulled out this bootleg to listen to the four tracks that were dropped from the original Somewhere In England album that George first presented to the record label.

What a recommendation! I just can’t stop listening to this. So much so I had to buy it. Going to have to give this forum a miss for a couple of days because I’m spending too much money.

One of my favourite Yes albums in recent years

Yes - The Ladder
This 1999 release was a bit of a creative return to form for the band and was produced by Bruce Fairbairn who was at the controls for a fair few classic rock albums, he tragically died at the mixing stage of this album and the band dedicated the finished album to him.

Anouar Brahem - Souvenance: Music for Oud, Quartet and String Orchestra

Anouar Brahem (Oud), François Couturier (Piano), Klaus Gesing (Bass Clarinet), Björn Meyer (Bass) and Pietro Mianiti (Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana).

It took a long time to write this music, he acknowledges, noting that his emotional world had been usurped by the unfolding story of political upheaval sweeping…" The album is sounding superb and helping me ease into the day!

Being a bit of a cantankerous old fart I probably would have seen the name of this group, who I have never heard of before, and passed them by as probably just another unlistenable piece if punk junk. That would have been my loss. Really quite good.
