What are you listening to in 2020 and WHY might anyone be interested?

Also recently got sent an absolutely brilliant demo recording from a US band that’s not been off my cd player in the office for the last 2 weeks. They have on the basis of the demo just been signed to a major US label today. Album due out next year sometime. I hope they don’t mess around with the sound too much.

The band is called Nightingale and the video is the 2nd track on their current E.P. I would like to thank Bri (the singer) for sending me a copy of the cd.

Last for the evening

Count Basie and His Orchestra - April In Paris, some great musicians in this band.

The original and the tribute. Both brilliant.

You’re too modest Tony. It sits in my collection with pride only because of your recommendation way way back :sunglasses:

Mischa Maisky. Still the best Bach cello suite performance.

Yes one of my favorites! Aminia has such a beatiful voice and the musicians are magical… I believe it was @Haim who mentioned this album a few years ago and when I gave it a spin I immediately bought a copy. Just love this thread for that very reason, I keep getting introduced to a artist or group I have not heard previously.

Patricia Barber - Verse

Patricia Barber (vocals, piano, Fender Rhodes), Neal Alger (guitars), Michael Arnopol (bass), Joey Baron (drums 1-4, 6-10), Dave Douglas (trumpet), Eric Montzka -drums 5) and Cliff Colnot String Ensemble (2).

Streaming on Qobuz (44.1/16)… reaching the end of this Friday and turning to Patricia’s ‘Verse’ album to help me ease towards dreamland. ‘Verse’ is one of my favorites, although I can say that about all of her albums. Love this talented band leader, composer, song writer, pianist, and singer, Patricia does it all! This is one sweet album and worth the time to take out for a spin…

No a friend bought the double album on vinyl and you got a WAV download included. Don’t think there’s any other way to get it. Great gig from a master on his way up.

Maybe just one more track or two

Starting off with an interesting one - Penny Goodwin only made one album back in 1974 - Portrait of a Gemini.

I must have picked it up given it has the wonderful song by Gil Scott-Heron Lady Day & John Coltrane and sealed with the Marvin Gaye cover of Let’s Get It On.
