What are you listening to in 2020 and WHY might anyone be interested?

A pleasure. Classic '70s Prog  . Ya just gotta love it!

Note that there are two versions of the first two albums, one totally in Italian, and the other mostly English (but with some Italian). IIRC the English lyrics were by Pete Sinfield of KC.

I’m sure Freewheelin’ is awesome in mono. I have MoFi:s stereo version of Freewheelin’, but I think the mono is even better.

Sun Ra time. Cosmos. A cut down arkestra in a mid 70s french session. Beautifully recorded on a fab Let Them Eat Vinyl reissue. Bought from a lovely chap in Belfast via Discogs - near mint meant near mint!

Lou Reed - Magic and Loss - original U.K. vinyl
After binging on the New York deluxe set yesterday, a listen to probably my favourite Lou Reed album. A meditation on death and the loss of friends mixed with mysticism, some of his finest songwriting, great playing and production.

Gregg Allman - Southern Blood - 1st press vinyl
Following the mortality themed Lou Reed album with this elegiac farewell from the great vocalist, one heart-wrenching original song and a set of wonderfully chosen covers on the theme of death and life. Brilliant playing from his touring band, his voice not having the raw power of his Allman Brothers youth, but it has plenty of strength and he digs so deep into the heart of the songs, the album is powerfully emotional and beautiful. One of my favourite albums of the century so far.

Elton John, Elton John, download

Finally the AE1 speakers have arrived and installed! tbh they aren’t bad at all. Okay not the fullness or depth and certainly not the bass of the SCM40 but, for their size and price, they’re really not that bad!

Jorja Chalmers - Human Again

Straight Outta Syddly, Australia. This is Drowned In Sound’s album of 2020, and is rather lovely & haunting. Jorja plays sax and keyboards in Byron Ferrari’s live band.
