This track was played on Radio 3 this morning. It turned out it was by the jazz pianist Aaron Diehl, who is entirely new to me, and is absolutely brilliant.

Anouar Brahem - Souvenance: Music for Oud, Quartet and String Orchestra

Anouar Brahem (Oud), François Couturier (Piano), Klaus Gesing (Bass Clarinet), Björn Meyer (Bass) and Pietro Mianiti (Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana).

Streaming on Qobuz (96/24)… continuing on this afternoon with this beautiful album from Anouar, members of his quartet and the the stings lead by Pietro. I listened to this album recently and it checked all the right boxes and thought this sunny Sunday afternoon would be perfect. No distractions and wonderfully peaceful!

Never listened to the album before, just “I am the one and only” from my youth.
Fairly ordinary pop, but a lightweight fun listen.

Luigi Boccherini, String Quintets. Europa Galante, Fabio Biondi. CD.

I haven’t shown much interest for Boccherini - other than his famous Cello Concerto - until recently, when I was seduced by his Pasa Calle ( or passacaille) from La Musica Notturna Delle Strade Di Madrid in the “Master And Commander” soundtrack.

These are more beautiful works from Boccherini, and Biondi’s interpretation is first class.

Kamasi Washington - Harmony of Difference

This CD EP is relatively short - but it is sweet, reminding me that I haven’t had any chocolate recently!

Thank heavens for Bill Evans :innocent:

Agreed: there is so much quality music in this thread but I am restrained from sharing the love due to the daily quota.

A great pick, I keep returning to that LP

@GeoffC
I have noticed that your avatar is white text on a black background but when you love a post the colours are inverted (black text on a white background). If you don’t mind me asking, how have you managed to achieve this contrasting effect?

About 10 years ago a young West Indian cricketer called Chesney Hughes started playing County cricket. I went and checked his age, he’d been born a few months after The One And Only has been in the charts.

Not sure about that, here my avatar always stays white letters on black - It must be a quirk on your browser or operating system?

Perhaps, but it looks really cool.

This is by far my favorite Diehl album (out of the four I own):

For some reason I sampled tracks from the Vagabond album and did not like them that much, finding them to be on the light side. Diehl gave here a concert two weeks ago (we could stream it) performing the music of John Lewis and MJQ.

Thanks, I’ll look at that one. I noticed he played at Pizza Express in Soho, just a few days after we saw Scott Hamilton.

Your Avatar reminds me of T Shirt I bought on a visit to Disney World (…and the Lost TV series)

Not a memorable performance look for others when you want to have a good recording.
