They really were a complete one-off, weren’t they … … … masters of the three minute choon.
I was dead chuffed when, as a louche fifteen year old, and off the leash in Blackpool for the first time, I saw them share a double bill with the 'Oo, at The Queen’s Theatre.
Don’t really get much better, do it?

If you don’t have it I highly recommend that you seek out “Semi Detached Mock Tudor” by RT. It’s a live recording of the tour that he did after the release of Mock Tudor. The version of Hard on Me on that is just superb.

Christy Moore - Flying Into Mystery - Original vinyl
First listen to the new one from the legendary Irish folkie, and it’s classic Christy. A light hearted number, a couple of impassioned serious songs, lovely tribute to His Bobness, fine self-penned songs and covers. All sung superbly by Christy whose voice seems unchanged despite his advancing years, and played well by a fine band, unusually lacking Declan Sinnott on guitar. Another top-class performance from the man.

She really is the most talented young singer for many a year and certainly not the time for her to ‘die’. Adele maybe no longer has the voice she had though. Billie Eilish will never have to strain.
Happier than Ever is my current go to album.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss - Raise the Roof - original vinyl
1st listen to my vinyl copy, which reinforces my view from streams. They’ve chosen a set of moving songs, as others have commented not as varied in style as Raising Sand, but for me they really make a brilliantly constructed set. Top class band as you’d expect, and two of the finest vocalists, whose voices harmonise so well.
I commented in my first note I had somehow failed in my pre-order, so this is a copy ordered on release day. Yesterday I got notification that my pre-order had been shipped, I’d searched email for Krauss on release day, unfortunately my receipt email only had the album name, not the artists. So I now have 2 LPs and 2 deluxe CDs. Time to subtly check with music-loving friends to see who’s not got a copy, Christmas presents sorted.
