Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu - The Gurrumul Story
Thanks to @Pete_the_painter for bringing this unusual and brilliant album to my attention. What an incredible voice he has, such a terrible shame he died so young.
BBC, The Foundation Trilogy, mp3 download
I mentioned this yesterday on another thread. It spurred me into seeking it out and downloading.
It really is very good This was BBC Radio drama from 1973. It’s really quite close to the books… I’m recognising the odd phrases and words from the books.
Spot of lunchtime belly dancing anyone?
Omar Khorshid - Belly Dance From Lebanon (Qobuz)
Heard Gilles Peterson playing this guy at the weekend. That particular album re issue isn’t out yet but this is pretty good.
Looked him up, Egyptian Guitarist who exiled himself, due to the political situation, to Lebanon during the early seventies.
Probably not very PC these days but the music is well worth a listen
Wewantsounds is delighted to announce the reissue of Omar Khorshid’s highly sought after instrumental album ‘Giant + Guitar’ originally released in 1974 in Lebanon and recorded at Polysound Studio by famed Lebanese engineer Nabil Moumtaz. The album features Khorshid’s unique electric guitar sound mixed with arabic melodies over superb psych arrangements. The album has been newly remastered and comes with the original ‘Voice of Lebanon’ artwork and a 2 page insert featuring liner notes (Eng/Fr) by Lebanese DJ and curator Ernesto Chahoud.
Much as I like Primal Scream, I can’t keep playing this, to the exclusion of all else.
Demodelica.
So, this instead.
Primal Scream - Echo Dek.
The Scream do spaced out dub … … … and it’s quite a relaxing listen.
(Managed to sneak “Demodelica” in again!)
Natacha Atlas. Diaspora.
Some may know her from Trans Global Underground but this debut (I think) solo album released in 1995 is very good.
David Bowie - Hunky Dory
It will be 50 years old next month and so far it doesn’t look like there will be a remaster or anything else to commemorate the fact.
Album originally released on vinyl in 1978 on the Gull label

Happy 80th Birthday Gary Boyle!

Birdy - Piano Sketches
I think this is a fabulous album/EP.
However very disappointed in Young Heart
The backing seems very poor - is it a drum machine, computer generated or similar. The more I latch onto the backing quality the worse I like the album.
She is so talented and does herself a disservice. Or is it me?
It’s you… but that doesn’t matter.
We all have different ears and brains.
Agree re Piano Sketches. I pointed @davidng towards this some time ago.
Birdy deserves the stardom a certain Adele enjoys.
