Claudio Monteverdi, Aria. Magdalena Kozena, mezzo-soprano with Anna Prohaska (soprano), David Feldman (countertenor) Jakob Pilgram / Michael Fayfar (tenors) and Luca Tittoto (bass). La Cetra Barockorchester, Andrea Marcon. Archiv CD.
I love opera but I must confess that I don’t often take the time to listen to full operas (I should). I do however regularly listen to albums of selected picks such as this one. Magdalena is touching and captivating in those Monteverdi works, and she is paired with excellent singers. Andrea Marcon’s conducting is a very good match.
Sound quality is good overall, but surprisingly on some tracks highs are pushed forwark akwardly, to the point where there’s sibilence on some words, a very rare occurence in my listening room. That’s really too bad because most tracks have a perfect sound balance.

I listened yesterday to a recent podcast of Building a Library from Record Review, which I was really enjoying until this version (my favourite of the three versions I have) was dismissed from the final shortlist. Grrr!
