Hi Peter, mines plagued by pops and crackles throughout (after RCM clean), I’ve asked for a replacement. How’s yours?
Brilliant album though with fantastic harmonies. If my second blue vinyl is no better may have to resort to the CD version.

Peter Case - The Man With The Blue Post Modern Fragmented Neo-Traditionalist Guitar
Got writers cramp after that. Great bluesy songs, exceptional blues/folk/rock album
Cheers Steve I’ll do some digging

I have a good quality tape of this but cant upload it. This YouTube clip isn’t the best quality but the vibe shines through.

This came as packing for another album - thought I’d throw it on for kicks, having never actually heard Manuel &MOTM before: heard of but as the kind of stuff your auntie liked… it’s actually beautifully recorded. Geoff Love knew what he was about.
And I’m always a sucker for any version of George Trenet’s La Mer.
I’ll hand in my badge at the door, obviously…

A great recording to start the day, playing the additional remixes on the second disc too!

Christian McBride Big Band - For Jimmy, Wes and Oliver.
Roebuck “Pops” Staples - Don’t Lose This
Pops was recording this his 4th solo album prior to his death in 2000. Over a decade later Mavis Staples and Jeff Tweedy completed this superb blues/gospel/soul album.
Hi Ian,
So sorry to hear that. I am actually streaming it via Qobuz so no pops or crackles of course.
The girls were doing an “unboxing” recently on their Facebook page and were very enthusiastic about it so I imagine they would be horrified to see faulty vinyl versions so hopefully a fresh copy will sort it out for you.
It’s quite a theatrical production and not quite what I was expecting but I think Lenny would have appreciated it.
Let us know how you get on with the replacement vinyl, fingers crossed.

Sol Gabetta, cello and direction. Il Progetto Vivaldi. Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca. Sony Music (RCA Red Seal) double LP.
I really like Gabetta and I decided to follow her in this somewhat daring “Vivaldi Project”. She plays cello and conducts Vivaldi works for cello and orchestra, as well as transcriptions of works for violin. That may sound strange, but Vivaldi and composers of that era were doing this kind of transcription all the time based on musicians available at hand.
There is no denying Gabetta’s mastering of her instrument and under her direction the Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca is swift and agile. Works for cello are exraordinary, but works for violin take some getting used to, especially the famous Winter concerto from The Four Seasons. I’m frankly amazed by how agile a cello can be playing the final Allegro and the result is spectacular, but I still prefer hearing it played by a violin.
My only other reservation is that the album is sold as a double LP, but the total playing time of both LPs is 68 minutes, which really makes it a single album on two discs.
Sound quality is excellent, if somewhat on the dark side. But then again maybe that’s just the result of hearing works for violin played by a cello. Pressing is beyond reproach.
In summary a very interesting album, but listen before you buy if you can.
