Yes it’s a great album and I am a sucker for a good live album. Rush always takes me back to my youth and good memories, my sister is a fan too and when she immigrated to New Zealand she took some of those early albums with her. I managed to hold on to a few. They are all first presses and really attached to them, though AFTKs is a little crackly now!
The Cure’s wonderful third album, before they went even darker with Pornography. I saw them play on the Faith tour, and still remember it all these years later.
I have this on vinyl - super album.
Tbh I’ve not listened to that album as I thought they’d lost the plot by then. Their last great album imo was 1993’s Earth and Sun and Moon.
‘Jazz’ - Queen
Concluding this evening’s listening by heading back to vinyl. And a classic from Freddie, John, Brian and Roger.
Going away from the Bowie theme cos I found this….
Blade Runner - the original - is still my favourite all time film and I remember buying this as at the time there was some legal argument re the Vangelis Sountrack
The New American Orchestra - Orchestral adaptation of music composed for the motion picture….
Often described as ‘primal’ there’s certainly plenty of raw emotion on show. Love it.
I was wondering about picking up a copy of the ‘Classic’ LP but happy with the CD so will stick I think.
Still going with a live theme, this time LCD Soundsystem, The Long Goodbye Live at Madison Square Gardens. Awesome stuff!
Then you must mean this album (spot the difference on the sleeve)
The Blue Note Classic reissue is superb, all bar the title track. I recall @Richard.Dane remarking that the title track lacked dynamism and he’s right. As if it’s been recorded separately from the rest of the album. Not that it should dissuade you from purchasing the Kevin Gray remaster. In my view, the quality/sound of the drumming on ‘Made in Sweden’ alone is worth a purchase.
Going to have to dig it out now!
CD version pretty good too. Didn’t notice any issue with the title track but will have to check.
Mine’s near mint & yours is only VG+.
I’ve never heard yours either
How did you like Duke?
By itself, it’s a decent album.
However, when I bought a vinyl copy, in 1980, it was a little disappointing. Not because of the material it contains per se. More because it shows a clear new musical direction for the band. Which was probably already there, but maybe less apparent, with the previous album …And Then There Were Three (1978).
We have most of the Genesis albums.
My wife ( and best mate) appreciates the later material, from Duke and Abacab onwards. I’m much happier with the earlier albums, up to and including …And Then There Were Three” (1978). The period which incorporates Gabriel’s work with the band and also Steve Hacket.
If you’ve not yet heard many of the other Genesis albums (and don’t have that bias), would be genuinely interested in what you think of Duke ?
I always think of Duke as their last great album….
But that’s just my opinion.
