Hi @ted_p did you ever come up to Dunkeld to see and hear him play at his hotel here? There were some very good nights especially when the doors got locked after hours!
I was listening to the radio yesterday; an episode of Jeeves & Wooster. Bertie as a thank you to Jeeves asks if there is anything he can get him as a present. Jeeves requests a new book out on Spinoza.
It reminded me of an album by John Zorn with two extended pieces. One for Bill Frisell and the other for Zorn on saxophone. Both of them are on fire.
John Zorn - Spinoza
No I haven’t had a chance yet, I will definitely do it next year.
I will be seeing him again (This will be my six time seeing Dougie live) at Celtic Connections in Glasgow on 23 January 2024.
The Detroit Escalator Co. Excerpts.
Kings of Convenience - Riot on an Empty Street.
Won’t get much chance to listen over the next couple of days, so wishing everyone on here a Very Happy Christmas from all at Rigsby Towers.
Now playing…
Alexandre Desplat - The Boys in the Boat (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Streaming on Qobuz (48/24)… kicking off this Sunday morning with the sound track from the newly released movie based on the bestselling non-fiction novel of the same title by Daniel James Brown and tells the true story of the 1936 University of Washington rowing team that competed and won the gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Berlin. …and the music is sounding sublime!
Bert Jansch and Rod Clements - Leather Launderette - Youtube Airplayed to Qb
Thanks to @andyp for the link. An interesting album, very traditional English folk and American country feel, less Pentangle and Lindisfarne influence than I expected. Having said that a set of good trad style numbers, even in his poor health Jansch could play a guitar, I’ll give it another listen and decide whether a trip to Discogs is in order.
My YouTube audio rip - de-clicked and cut up per track sounds pretty good.
I see that the Jansch Estate has been trying to get hold of the recording for a number of years and ate hopeful it will see a re-release.
There are some really good songs here.
Back to my youth, the album that propelled Free from highly respected touring band to the big time. I still have my originally pressing but this is the Abbey Rd half speed remaster. Oh I Wept is on my Desert Island 8.
Doll by Doll - Doll by Doll - Tidal 16/44
One of my favourite rock albums, songs and vocals by the great Jackie Leven with a superb band, and as a high point the glorious ballad Main Travelled Roads.
