Lucy Thomas, encore.
Since my TT and amp improvements been working through my collection, so back to a perennial.
Henry McCullough -Ballywonderland - Tidal 16/44
A tip off from @Gazza a few years ago, a fantastic set of rock and roll numbers mixed with ballads, sung in a gentle voice and with guitar playing of the level of a man who played lead for Joe Cocker and Paul McCartney. An album I come back to often.
Its a good album, and you have made my mind up what to play next with Henry playing on it.
I’ve become a real fan of this man and his band this year so had to have another listen before bed
Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit - Weather Vanes
I’ve asked Santa for a copy of Southeastern for Xmas so here’s hoping the hint got through to Mrs Hanumike
Happy Christmas everybody
Great album, but I’ll always know it as “Steve McQueen”
Eels So Good: Essential Eels Vol. 2
The first track is the more bristly Eels and not representative of the more accessible selection. A bunch of great songs well recorded make for a great compilation. “Peach Blossom” is a stand-out track as is my old favorite “Earth to Dora”.
Graceful and emotionally charged Harnoncourt’s 2003 recording.
Well extended solo vocals and distortion free massed strings albeit they are on dry side. Upfront perspective with close mic’d chorus. Instrument textures are well preserved.
Intimate vocal recording with beautiful layering with clear individual voices. Confutatis/Lacrimosa has the raw power with transparent voice of angels. It does not have the polish of Mariner or Karajan but oddly there is a stronger emotional connection with me of poignant underlying pain. Harnoncourt sits opposite to Karajan in terms of overall vivid and direct presentation.
A perfect prelude to the Midnight Mass tonight…
A very mellow start to Christmas Day, with Eva’s wonderful tones, especially her rendition of Imagine – on CD. Ever hoping the world can live as one.
I played my new LP copy (with a silverised cover) of ‘After The Goldrush’ earlier this morning. Young Neil has made many great records, but he has never surpassed this one.
It is easily in my Top Ten (and close to the very top) of the best records ever made.
I was lucky enough to see Neil Young at an open air concert in Finsbury Park a long time ago. For some reason, his backing group were not Crazy Horse, but Booker T and the MGs - so I got to see the great Steve Cropper exchanging guitar licks with Mr Young.
Various artists singing jazzy Christmas tunes. Well, vtuner is down, so why not? Happy Christmas all
CD. Played once a year. A happy Christmas to everyone.
