What are you listening to in 2023 and why might anyone be interested?

The duo (12 string and fiddle) playing at our local blues club the other night did Free Bird as an encore and did a remarkable job of covering three lead guitars. So bunging on the original with happy memories of a Leeds Uni gig in 1970 something (6?) where it was the inevitable encore. The night only spoilt by fisticuffs with some NF skinheads on the way home.

Tosca - Osam

Streaming on Qobuz (44.1/16)… a mention from @Anonymoot above had me place this album released in May, 2022 in the queue and now taking out for a spin and enjoying the opening track… looking forward to the rest of the album.

The following note on BandCamp caught my attention: "For Richard Dorfmeister and Rupert Huber, the idea of rebirth is a creative driving force – an artistic device which not only informs their work, but anchors it. As the avant-garde electronic group Tosca, the two artists have lived many musical lives, from their early electronic experiments with tape decks to the blissed-out dub compositions with which they have made their name. Their latest project, OSAM, takes this idea of renewal even further. A meditative journey through rhythm and texture, the album represents a new chapter for the Austrian duo. It’s as much an instrument for change as it is a source of inspiration. ‘Osam’ is a direct translation of the number eight in Serbian, but it is also acts as the mediaeval symbol for a fresh start – a renaissance. This is their ninth studio album but in true Tosca style when they started working on the concept for the record, they thought it was their eighth.

2 x LP - Milestone 1973 : )

A double vinyl compilation of recordings from the 1950s, really quite good :slightly_smiling_face: :+1:

Makes my spine tingle every time :metal:

It’s certainly very loud. Shame about Chris’s passing. RIP.

I really enjoyed it, now on to more Dorfmeister from 2020 …

Great album. A guy at school lent me this in 74, it opened a life long love of the band and a few other southern US bands. Saw them in 76.

Tosca - Opera

Streamed on Qobuz (44.1/16)… while doing some chores around the house I carried on with another album from Tosca and some wonderful background music to keep the body moving… Enjoyed the album.

Enjoying…

Hugely talented (and underrated) musician who has dedicatedly supported Christy Moore and Mary Black on numerous albums and tours. Second (but only) solo album on Qobuz - hugely tuneful, smooth and relaxing album - hope you too enjoy this quality recording from this (imho) uncelebrated Irish talent…
