John Scofield - Hand Jive

Regarded by many as John’s best. It’s a superb album for sure.

I often enjoy the albums the reviewers have doubts about. I think this a great album. It’s also could be called great hifi imo. The vinyl must be terrific. I only have the CD. The Qobuz stream is excellent.

Fink | ‘Beauty In Your Wake’

Contributed this wonderful album to the thread a couple of weeks back and on finding I am playing this latest album quite frequently I decided to purchase via Sublime for just £7.99 (£11.99 usually). Bargain!

As part of a mini experiment I decided to download and see how the download compares to the stream. Although the stream (24/48 flac) is very good sounding as it’s recorded so well, the download (24/48 wav) improves the experience even more. Not quite night and day (edit: it actually is but trying to avoid the cliché) but noticeably wider soundstage, improved imaging, improved instrument separation and more immediate/impactful and visceral. Difficult to quantify numerically but moves the dial say from 8.5 to almost 9.5/10. Thankfully
the musicality holds together despite the increased resolution and space.

Super-pleased with the result as part of my mini test and loving this album even more with the ‘full fat’ file. By no means this won’t stop me streaming from Qobuz as the convenience and sound quality is good enough, but for those times when I wish to indulge in the best experience (my relatively modest system can offer) a locally streamed wav file is the way to go for me. Makes my Quads even more ethereal sounding.

Interesting…

Sublime…:grinning:

PS: Noticed Qobuz are having their Download Fest for the month of August (again), with some good prices, so I can see my music budget taking a big hit this month! :man_shrugging:t2::grinning:

With all news coming out of the UK at present I woke up thinking of Billy Bragg for some strange reason.

Don’t Try This At Home

The Few

At night the baby brotherhood and the inter city crew
Fill their pockets up with calling cards
And paint their faces red white and blue
Then they go out seeking different colored faces
And anyone else that they can scare
And they salute the foes their fathers fought
By raising their right hands in the air
Oh look how my country’s patriots are hunting down below
What do they know of England who only England know

From the stands of the empire stadium
Come the heralds of the new dark age
With the simplicities of bigotry
And to whom all the world’s a stage
These little john bullshits know that the press
Will glorify their feats
So that the general public fear them
And the authorities say give 'em all seats
And the wasted seed of the bulldog breed
Is shouting here we go
What do they know of England who only England know

Our neighbors shake their heads
And take their valuables inside
While my countrymen piss in the fountains
To express our national pride
And to prove to the world that England
Is just as rotten as she looks
They repeat the lies that caught their eyes
At school in history books
But the wars they think they’re fighting
Were all over long ago
What do they know of England who only England know

And the society that spawned them
Just cries out who’s to blame?
And then wraps itself in the union jack
And just carries on the same
Oh look out my country’s patriots are hunting down below
What do they know of England who only England know
