Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 - Stillness. Bossa folk-rock, recorded in L.A. in 1971, and it shows. Check out the covers of Chelsea Morning and Steven Stills’ For What It’s Worth. Cracking album.
Another criminally underrated synth band. This is their first album on vinyl – the CD version, which I also have, is radically different. Sadly Regine and Hugh from the band are both now deceased.
Edgar Winter - Brother Johnny - 2022
A tribute album to his late brother (Johnny Winter) who died in 2014 aged 70.
Lots of 1980s productions have dated badly, but not this one, perhaps because it’s so OTT. The epic title track is/was the best thing Frankie ever did. Maybe Horn’s best production job too. Japanese vinyl.
Thanks to Trevor Horn, definitely.
Very nice Kev
Totally concur about the production its stunning
I love the track Welcome To The Pleasure Dome
Especially the basslines on it and the way it stops and drops back in
I really think Trevor Horn made Frankie
The War on Drugs - A Deeper Understanding
Great CD with a glass of cold dry white after a shift.
The Allaes are really kicking out the guitars and drums. Wonderful!
Did you enjoy it?
Phil
Didn’t actually get to watch it until this morning Filipe, but yes it was brilliant.
I had to listen to the Anne Sophie Mutter Brahms Violin Concerto on BBC Sounds this morning as iPlayer doesn’t seem to have it, which I found simply marvellous
