Alice In Chains - Jar of Flies EP (35th anniversary remaster)

Another incredible EP. I was really looking forward to getting this short, harrowing collection of sun-drenched misery and while it sounded quite good, I expected a bigger increase in quality versus the Qoboz stream. Both versions posses a dry, almost antiseptic sound that I always attributed to the “digitalness” of the streamed version but it’s still there on the vinyl release. I guess it’s truly sourced from a digital master.

Still worth owning, however.

@Taake
another classic. Shades of God was the first Paradise Lost I bought. To be honest, I didn’t care for the two before it but Shades Of God, Icon and Draconian Times were three belters in a row.
Now, where are those CD rips stored……

Fugazi - Repeater (2009 remaster)

Razor-sharp and pared to the bone, Fugazi serve up a slice of hardcore punk that balances aggression with ascetic minimalism.

The recording follows-suite, allowing the relatively simple musical compositions plenty of air and detail while allowing heart-stopping dynamics to shoot from the speaker cones with the impact they deserve.

Does she enjoy Cat Stevens rather more?

I had that Grateful Dead/John Oswald mash-up on CD once. Is it available to buy as an LP these days?

You haven’t heard it? It’s Karen Carpenter, possibly the finest female voice ever!

@davidng carry on playing and posting anything featuring that gorgeous voice.

Listening now.
Blew me away listening out of a Akai cd compact
system in college in the 80s. Excels many of the British rock and roll royalty of the 60s.

Hi Graham,

I think it’s had a reissue on vinyl, but it’s expensive. The CD is still available on the usual sites.

Fancied some Killers so…
