John McLaughlin - Now Here This

With his current band, the 4th Dimension, which features Gary Husband on keyboards, Etienne M’Bappé on bass and the truly astonishing Ranjit Barot on drums. Having said that, Etienne M’Bappé is a pretty astonishing bass player too. This is cutting edge jazz-rock fusion.

This Tone Poet LP is in audio terms the best version of this session I have heard (albeit only first-issued around 1980 in Japan). Musically also better than my previous thoughts on it.

Melissa Aldana - Echos of the Inner Prohet

Melissa Aldana (Tenor Saxophone), Lage Lund (Guitar, Effects), Fabian Almazan (Piano, Effects), Pablo Menares (Bass) and Kush Abadey (Drums).

Streaming on Qobuz (96/24)… a new release from Blue Note records for Melissa with her fine quintet and they are sounding sublime on the opening track! Looking forward to the rest of the album…
