It was well-received at the time but has slipped into near-obscurity. Wildly underrated.

Spot of R.E.M in the arvo - 1985s Fables of the Reconstruction on I R.S vinyl. A slice of American gothic, a dark edge to these tales. I’d forgotten it was recorded in Blighty and produced by Joe Boyd.

Its certainly a darker REM album
They recorded it in London in the winter and it was snowy and were staying miles away from the studio.
Travelling for an hour on the underground to get there everyday.
There was alot of colds going around and band morale was extremely low
I remember reading a looking back article and they said it was the closest they got to breaking up.
Essential early album though :ok_hand:
