Our son has had his girlfriend over from the US for the last week, we offered to take them out to a restaraunt but they asked for a home cooked curry meal. Fortunately I had some onion and tomato masalas prepared in the freezer, as I make a lot at one time. So, we had butter chicken, garlic chilli chicken, chicken naga. tarka dhal, Bombay aloo, mushroom bhaji, garlic nans, poppadoms and pickles.
Mrs W had to takeover a request for leftovers today, I can’t believe these young peoples constitution, but I am sure we were probably similar 40 years ago. Had a superb Austrian riesling with it, minerally and very clean.
It’s taken me all day to recover from standing at the hob for so long, but I enjoy them being pleased.
Picking them up at 6am tomorrow for her flight back to Minneapolis, not looking forward to another separation. Hopefully her visa will come through next year.
Bittersweet. Food and booze was good though.
That looks absolutely delicious - have you thought about going into the business ?
This is a cobbler.
If it had a pastry bottom as well as the pastry top then it would qualify as a pie.
Sorry. But still looks delicious
It had a pastry bottom - obscured by apple and juices!
Thanks, it was good, and a lot of hard work, but I do enjoy doing it. I’ve had a couple of Indian restaurant kitchen experience gifts in the past and figured out the techniques and shortcuts used.
Ok. I would imagine it would have had a very soggy bottom.
I can recommend looking for American apple pie recipes.
They have nailed it more than ours.
Definitely agree - this was my first attempt and contents ‘wet’. I placed the peeled apple slices between layers of kitchen paper to extract water but to no avail. I think you are right about US recipes as next place to go
(Tasted bloody good though!)
That’s all that matters in the long run😋
2 things to amend in recipe
Will try blind baking base first
I made the pie in the morning and then put in the oven in the afternoon - probably a mistake and next time I should make pie at last moment and then pop in oven
Is there anything better than roast beef and all the trimmings? Cold roast beef, leftover cauliflower cheese and bubble and squeak…
Bacon and mushroom pappardelle with chilli. It was a quick fix with Belazu wild mushroom pesto and cream, because we are knackered from the 5am start taking our son’s girlfriend to Heathrow. Way too much, so expecting the sweats later!
Still fealing a bit under the weather.
So ramped it up a bit with lots of ginger and garlic for a soup of carrots, parsnips and red lentils.
With a curry yoghurt marinated chicken thigh grilled and sliced on top.
Hmm feeling a bit better.
Roast partridge tonight. Covered the partridges with sliced, smoked pancetta. Stuffing mixed with fresh cranberry sauce spooned inside cavity. Par-boil potatoes first and then roast for an hour. After roasting partridge for 25mins, take out and pour red wine and then chicken stock into the dish, for a sauce. And then boring boiled carrots, because I ran out of time (but that’s ok, because the sauce made up for them). Fresh cranberry sauce on the side. Whole lot was lovely.
N.B. Looking at my pic after, spots everywhere. What a mess. Reading my post after, no wonder I don’t write cookery books.
I’m alone for the next two nights as well, so maybe pizza tomorow. I’ve been told that I can’t have the curry that i s lefy on my own. Wonders of marriage.
You can’t have pizza tomorrow after tonight’s lovely menu. Very nice food.
Depends on the weather, if I can get a rain free period I’ll BBQ some harissa chicken and have some salad with it.
Mrs W ate the leftover potatoes when she came home, better than what she had at friends.
Slow cooker leek, potato and spinach soup.
Ninja air fryer sourdough cheddar cheesies.
Soup started at 10am when I had some energy.
Didn’t finish the cheesies so blackbird (he is back with his new woman) bonanza tomorrow.
After an afternoon listening to the new 300 system at Basically Sound, cheated tonight with a Chinese Takeaway…
