Slightly odd coloured paneer, lentil and spinach curry. The purĂŠed red onion turned almost black.

This is a winner in our house. I don’t do it enough. It’s called Leon Gobi. If you want a gluten free meal this ticks the box. Works well with added chicken.

I don’t have a banana at hand to show scale, so here’s an egg.
Will be prepping up these whopping great rainbow trout. 1 for tonight and the others for the freezer.
I’m thinking just a simple bake with herbs.
Undecided as yet what side to accompany.

(Tip. The smaller ones are generally younger so taste less like the older bigger ones tasting of their environment. If they are swimming in @ then they are going to taste of @)

Crucial if caught in less than ideal environmental circumstances. Luckily these were caught in our best waterways)

A Vacherin Mont d’Or baked with rosemary, slivers of garlic and a splash of white wine.

Served in the traditional way spooned on to new potatoes and a green salad dressed with a Dijon mustard dressing. My aunt is French and from this region so taught me how to do it proper. Served with a brilliant Godello from Bierzo.

This is on my shortlist for a death row meal

Today we are doing a lunch for family so it’s lamb and beef!

Still a couple more hours of slow cooking then it’s time for the roast veg and yorkies

Hi Crispyduck - that looks rather delicious, I have been trying to find Vacharan at Waitrose in the pine bark. At one time you buy it from the deli counter latterly prepack, this year I can only find a UK version called ‘roll right’. You’re post prompts me go to a deli to find the original!

Not my cooking but yesterday my daughter and I decided to kick Xmas off by going to a new opening for lunch - the Dover St Counter near Green Park in London. They do fancy sandwiches and cocktails. I had a tuna melt with Red Leicester cheese and proper sourdough. They cooked it the proper way in a frying pan with a shed load of butter and then sprinkled pickled chillies on. I had it with two (two!) Gibson’s. Great start to Xmas

We’ve only returned home after seeing MIL (sadly she’s too infirm to come to us). Unusually I didn’t put meat in the oven before we left this morning and I’m really not that hungry.

It was going to be a shoulder of lamb or some cheap (heavily discounted on offer) Tesco beef. Not sure.

Have a couple of Côte de Boeuf to cook in coming days - might be those as they’ll be quickest to cook.

It’s going to be one (ok probably both of these)"

Tesco (left) ÂŁ35.75/kg. Waitrose (right) ÂŁ58/kg.

ÂŁ25.74 vs ÂŁ50.69

Have to say the Tesco one smells a bit iffy/strong but sometimes they do

Expensive either way but not compared to eating out…
