What beer are you drinking and WHY might anyone be interested?

That is a bargain, that is a nice beer!

If you like that one, try this from Waitrose. Not 50p a can, but a really nice modern IPA with fruity flavours whilst also retaining a nice bitter finish.

Thanks. I’ll keep a lookout for it.

Was this also from the ‘too good to waste’ shelf?

It’s interesting that these massively dry-hopped beers lose a lot of flavour very quickly, so are best drunk fresh. But that of course doesn’t mean they’re bad after that. If you still have a cans, you might find it interesting to also buy a non-discounted “fresh” sample and compare.

I’ve just checked the cans. They were canned in July 24. Best before…. today! They taste fine to me and six months seems a short time in the can. For 50p you can’t go wrong.

Beer will be fine (drinkable) for years after the best before date. That does not mean the taste doesn’t change, and whether that’s for better or worse is of course a subjective matter. Regarding dry-hop flavour, that can start diminishing in a matter of weeks, so almost certainly those cans don’t taste the same as when fresh. Hence I thought the experiment might interest you.

I did not want to imply they wouldn’t taste fine, and I fully agree that you can’t go wrong for 50p!

I had a look on their website and they don’t seem to be making the beer any more, or not at the moment anyway. I’ll keep an eye out, as it would be good to experience the difference between newly canned and six months old. For years I’ve drunk only cask beer, but some of these keg and canned IPAs are absolutely delicious.

Visiting family as my Dad is not well. After an 8 hour drive, the bar of the Irby Mill is a welcome sight!

Cheers,

The Wirral.

Beerbohm’s, Lichfield. Castle Rock and Hartington always reliable, if not exciting.

That’s not the same as that stuff our friends in the US drink is it.

Definitely. You can’t compare. Except for the name, they have nothing in common. But I confess that I also like the American, drinks pleasantly, goes down well.

Has to be ice cold though

Well, you don’t have to go along with every trend…

Stroud Brewery - Budding
The Tap room at the brewery is our local, simple 6 mile walk up the canal and back or more usually a more convoluted walk around some of the five valleys to get there and back.
Unfortunately, at the moment we are a bit nobbled, so a drive there to pick up the bag in the box and a pint while we were about it.

A couple of pics from outside the brewery last week

Paul.
