What is your power cord?

Hi @timmo1341

I have enough good wall sockets and a dedicated mains supply but tried out a Musicworks Ultra Gen 3 for a few weeks hoping it would be worth it.

There was a small improvement in focus, solidity and imaging that might be down to the star wiring for the earth (someone else might be able to tell us more about this).

Problem is the very high cost, particularly when you see how simple it all is. They also don’t supply a mains cable so you are looking at almost £2k which is eye wateringly expensive for a few extra sockets, even if they are wired up correctly.

I decided to get a dedicated consumer unit (not installed yet) but when I get to the end of the journey I would consider one again, hopefully “pre-owned”.

I would also say that if someone needs the extra sockets and/or is less of a tight wad it is worth looking at.

Hopefully, if there is some genuine positive synergy Naim will develop one for us. Just hope they don’t decide to stick it out at £3k with a Power line lite as standard.

I looked at doing the same, but it not so simple; the Powerline Lite plug is designed for 0.75mm/2 3 core, i.e. the same size as the cable it comes with.
To fit a larger cable means resizing the plug cable entry plastic moulding, that looks like filing or a rotary cutter or similar.

Not sure a larger cross section cable would make much of a difference. The 2.5mm will pull enough electickery.

Was thinking of putting shorter lengths on the plugs to eliminate birds nesting (pile of coiled leads)

The PL Lite is not 2.5mm, its 0.75mm
I’m all in favour of rats nest avoidance, my home brew 2.5mm cables are made to length, but my two PL Lites are folded & 'Lite’ly tied with Velcro tape.

Is there a discernable difference with 2.5mm cable compared to 0.75? I have always stuck with supplied power cords

When I was playing with cables I did find differences, but I suspect a lot more to do with the cable construction, insulation type & the various combo’s of C,L & R rather than ultimate current delivery.
A 0.75mm cable is rated at 6 amps, a 2.5mm is typically around 16 amps
A typical amp (inrush current aside) pulls a lot less than 1 amp, my Supernait playing at normal room volume & with my Fluke ammeter set to smoothing, rarely goes over 0.4 amps, NDX via TXPS is 0.1 & NAT-05 is 0.03.

Thanks Mike

Good info

Does someone know what are the differences between the cheapest Naim power cord and PL Lite except the different plugs? Are the shielding and internal structure different?

nope - exactly the same as i understand.

I have 2 devices with normal stock Naim power cords. If PL Lite is almost the same is there a point to upgrade the stock cables to PL Lites?

The Powerline Lite is the previous stock Naim cable but with a Naim designed UK 13A plug, this has pins that are not hard moulded into the plug body allowing the pins to move slightly & better align into the socket terminals clamps.

I have the tibia plus deep cryo power cable from AV Options as well and the Powerline is still a much better power cable. My powerline cost $550 USD secondhand.

That’s T-Sarum? Or Music? I still has Chord Music to wall

Come on sweetie, how’s it sounding?

An 8 way hydra (NAT01 and 135s and SC) and a couple of power lines for a NDS / PS / Snaxo.
Bog standard leads for ‘Qutes and music server.

Did you tell your wife how much that cable cost  ? LoL
