Full on this weekend with Mothers Day celebrations with my mum over from the UK on holiday and my mother in law now living here in Perth also from the UK. Probably wont get to watch it till later next week. Will let you know what I think of it later.
My wife’s favourite music concert, she is a huge Sakamoto fan. DTS-HD Master Audio 24/48 stereo giving great sound quality, very impressive.
Pink Floyd at Pompeii MCMLXXII the UHD video on the Blu-ray disc is in 4:3 format and is pin sharp, very detailed and excellent, so much better than the DVD Directors Cut Edition disc I have.
The re-mastered audio in 24/96 is awesome, so much better than the Dolby Digital on the DVD.
I was never too fussed about the doco bits on the disc and much prefer the concert songs, but its a moment in time before the guys became mega stars after DSOTM and for that its very good.
Worth every cent to get the Blu-ray, just for the Hi-Res sound and then the UHD video is a bonus.
Just managed to get a Sony 4K blu ray player, the old X700, and playing the INXS 4K blu ray, the picture is quite a bit better with Dolby Vision… but the concert on normal 2K blu ray was already very enjoyable.
I bought the 4K player for movies. One I can think of is Tron Ares coming out later in the year.
Still though Concerts on Blu ray or 4K blu ray are so much fun… Much better than buying Vinyl ![]()
Good to see another convert to the great benefits of music on Blu-ray discs, be it regular Blu-ray, 4K or Hi-Res Pure Audio Blu-ray discs, its a fantastic format and the audio sound quality is first class, especially the Hi-Res releases - enjoy, Ive been doing it since 2007 when Blu-Ray first came out and now have a huge collection of music BluRay discs and movies with my 4K movie collection growing all the time - just this week Dirty Harry, Pale Rider and The Outlaw Josey Wales got released on 4K which I bought.
Just got these three second-hand, bargin cheap ($6 - $8). All DVDs, the Fleetwood Mac and Clapton are double sided discs with 5.1 and stereo LPCM.
Just watching The Eagles, it has a regular 5.1 and stereo audio menu - the sound quality on stereo is lovely.
Don’t forget this, Marillion fans! I didn’t get to see them on this particular tour, but love the ‘Less is More’ album (24/96 audio only version of the album included on the BD) and this captures the atmosphere of the venue beautifully.
Cheers,
Ian
I have that Eagles DVD, but find the farewell tour Blueray to be the best concert footage of them.
I own both…
I’ve been watching Marcus Miller with David Sanborn and Eric Clapton on Sky Arts, 1997. Very good.
Amazing show/band but extremely explicit.
I’m not easily shocked but this, blimey.
Nevertheless just makes you realise what an incredible voice Till has.
We used to have the Sky Arts channel on Foxtel in Australia but they removed it about a year a go, shame because they had really good music concerts and documentaries on it.
I tend to watch this once year or so.
It’s preposterous of course, bloated, self-indulgent and the product of ego and hubris. Even in 1976 it seemed out of date. And the fact that some of the live footage was ‘re-enacted’ at Shepperton only adds to the farcical nature of the whole thing.
But frequently, it’s also awe-inspiring (and the case of the half-hour ‘Dazed and Confused’, both simultaneously). They really were the best live act of all time and despite its many faults, TSRTS is one of the best concert movies ever…
This completes my collection of all the JB DVD and Blu-ray concert disc releases and there are now very many of them.
Fortunate to see JB in Perth a couple of years ago on his Australian Tour, he was fantastic live and Im really pleased he continues to release concerts on disc when many other artists and record companies have stopped them
JB is one of the very best modern era Blues artists and a brilliant guitarist.
Found this little gem the other day in our local record store. I’d never heard of it before, but what a lovely concert, lots of intricacies/subtle nuances and sounds great.
On Sunday I went to see this in Leicester Square. The sound and picture quality are just out of this world, of course, but the film is a pretty good record of the 2022-23 tour. Will be getting the BRD when it comes out.
Definitely will be grabbing a copy of that when released. Saw him live in Detroit when he did the wall tour, around ten years ago now…best show I have ever seen. I do have the Blueray of that tour, but this one is 4K Ultra it appears.![]()
I’m a bit undecided, as I have his last 2 blurays, so will prioritise the new Gilmour one first. There is quite a lot of overlap of tracks with the last 2 releases and his stage antics are a bit much at times.
