Thanks for the response - it’ a whirlwind out there.
I nave never heard of Digione or how to try it out.
I like 272 and the ONLY reason to change is the streaming software. I have my unitiserv as a digital source and it;s great so the issues reside around quobiz . Roon etc for the hires future.
Personally, I only used the “regular” Digione (the older non-Signature version), and then moved on to the USBridge Signature. In the meantime I got a Chord Hugo 2go for my Hugo 2. But I kept the USBridge Signature for a future project.
Apparently, the DigiOne Signature hat performs the best on a USBridge Signature. That would make the transport slightly more expensive but still very good value for money.
In terms of resource allocation I wonder whether putting money into a Raspberry Pi streamer and the putting “saved” money towards a 555 is a better use of resources than “splashing” out on a 272.2 – obviously that’s just theorizing. The proof of the pudding is in the eating…
P.S. RoPieee is fantastic as Roon Endpoint and more on a Raspberry Pi.
As many others across this forum have intimated, the more you spend the more likely you are to perceive an improvement in direct proportion to the size of your expenditure……
If, however, you are happy with the sound of your system, eg 272/XPS DR, why spend anything at all?
I upgraded because I wanted the current generation of streamer and I gave up waiting on Naim to replace the 272. It was also made possible by a great deal from my dealer.
Would any prospective purchaser buy a replacement for the 272, that did not have XLR outputs or the capability to be powered from a external power supply ?
I can’t see a Nova SE myself replacing the space reserved for a 272 replacement. It might come along as a trickle-up progression in the Uniti range, but the need for an NDX2 with a volume control and analogue inputs is so obviously missing in the classic range I think it’s nailed on that it will appear within the next 12 months.
Know the feeling, so to speak. Had to give up 40 years of smoking after heart attack ( 2 stents fitted), just before last Xmas. Still, it’s only rock n roll.
AS I took the thread "off piste " I will get it back on by wondering if the Nait XS3 and SN3 had a phono stage added , would a phono stage be added to what is effectively a streaming pre-amp and would any analogue signal be converted to digital in the way it happens on a Nova .
Hope not , I 'm thinking about a SN3 ( adding a HiCap at a later date ) and keeping my Nova as a source .
Remember that the Nova only has a pre-out, so you would have to connect the SN3 in power-amp mode only. Trading the Nova for a NDX2 with the SN3 would be a far better result I think.
This is my AV system, which has a UnitiQute that acts as DAC from TV and blu ray, the Nova would replace the UnitiQute, retain it’s streaming and act as DAC for a newer, warmer sounding amp .
At the moment I’m tyre kicking and considering a number of items - I have an additional pension paid soon - on the other hand I might get a Breitling…
Actually it’s more wasted functionality in the SN3 (i.e. not using the preamp or input selector).
The Nova could be used alone or with a power amp, with the Nova doing all the digital and analogue preamp functions as required.
There is also ‘waste’ involved in selling one box and buying another.
My SuperUniti was once and ‘all in one’, then it became a Streamer/DAC/pre into a separate power amp, then a streamer into a separate DAC, plus power amp. I have never felt it a ‘waste’ it’s an amazing ‘swiss army knife’ of a piece of equipment with loads of I/o options and a powerful amplifier. I think it is a shame that Naim chose to reduce the i/o and amp control options with the Nova.
