Surely you could just plug that lot into either your existing Nova, or get an NDX2/SN3 and do exactly the same. I certainly wouldn’t run a Nova and SN3.
Can’t afford a NDX2 plus a SN3 and you are spot on !!!
(Sorry for poor picture)
One idea is to make the Nova , the digital hub of the AV as well as retaining it’s streaming capacity. The UnitiQute will get sold
Then in the audio side, I would like to have a non-digital amp for my CD player, tuner and TT whilst adding a HiCap at a later date .
Appreciate that this is a bit left field - and certainly not how you would start a system from scratch . What I want to do is restrict the wires that go under the carpet.
The other alternative is to get some warmer sounding speakers and I appreciate your advocacy for the ProAcs
The way we do it is to connect both the DVD player and the Virgin box to the TV. There is then a single optical lead from the TV to the NDX2. The NDX2, the tuner and the TT then connect to the SN3. Very neat and simple and sounds pretty much in line with your thinking.
Thanks, a little way off as my old age pension doesn’t kick in for a few months yet , but upgrading the audio system is one pressing thought , another is a Breitling …
Same here, the TV is our main hub for audiovisual equipment and only one toslink optical cable into the Atom. Works superb.
Thanks for your input – like yourself I switched to much smaller speakers , I want to downsize as far as possible but keep the sound at a high level
Going through some options (such as better quality small speakers) , as you say a Nova as a stand alone streamer and a SN3 is a bit daft, but an Atom HE , would cover my DAC and streaming requirements and the SN3 can have a HiCap fitted later
My TV doesn’t have an optical/digital output , guess I could use a cheapo device from Amazon for combining the digital outputs
PS I like the Isoblu stand
The Stereonet website has just published a review of the AURALiC G2.1 Altair Wireless Streaming DAC and are very complimentary about it.
I wonder if any waiting for the 272 replacement will be tempted by this already available alternative?
Already tempted - picked up my G2.1 Altair a couple of weeks ago
How’s it sounding, they do get great reviews. I think a few may jump ship if Naim doesn’t make a move soon.
More than a few, already have Pete.
@Pete_the_painter I’m really enjoying it. Demo’d over a number of months against various Naim streamer/DACs (Atom, Nova, ND5 XS2) as well as the other Auralic models (Altair G1 and Vega G2.1). Without an updated 272 there isn’t a direct Naim alternative to the Auralic models, so when I landed on the ATC SCM40A’s as my speaker choice the Altair became the perfect partner. SQ wise all the Naim and Auralic models are good. I found the Naim models to have more drive and energy whereas the Auralic models had more detail and clarity. I also preferred the Auralic app over the Naim app, but not a huge difference. Had there been a new 272 available it might have been a closer call than it actually was.
I thought you’d already upgraded to 282 ndx2, I must be confused all that Aldi vintage wine🥂
Half right 252/NDX2, but tbh I would have preferred the one box plus PS than the 7 I’ve ended up with. My dealer made me an offer I just couldn’t refuse.
Ah ok, so your still up for reducing box count, but not at the cost of loss of fidelity
I just gave up waiting for Naim to update the 272. However it didn’t bother much until I signed up with Qobuz.
Ok, I use Napster/Sonos 320 max resolution £6 month but my ears are not that fussy and they have a huge catalog esp jazz and classical if I want better I can buy the cd and rip it
Tbh I’ve been surprised on occasions by how good a m4a file can sound. I have a few downloads I bought in the bad old days from the iTunes Store that I have on my server. They don’t stack up when you play them back to back against a better file but there not as bad as some would have you think.
I better go and lock the front door.
Patience always pays in the end. I have plugged my Nova on the 300DR and enjoying the music until the right moment comes along to buy a decent preamp/streamer. Then the Nova can be a standalone in the master bedroom.
Let’s hope it’s not 50 years as Solstice.
You never know, it could be announced in time for us to buy a Christmas present to ourselves. Either that or it could be a daffodil announcing the arrival of spring.
