What now for 272 owners?

Seriously, Cardoso, acoustic treatment from walls, floor and ceiling is all you need. Add a Muso, and you are done.

i thought we´re talking high-end here…

A Muso is not a NDX2/SN3 (of the conversation).
A person who buys one, won´t do room correction

And I’m not disagreeing with what you mentioned. But even that cost money (to do it right)

I think FR was joking; some people sometimes seem to err on this side, giving so much importance to room treatment that it can appear as if the system does not matter

ok. understood. but i reckon room is of greatest importance.
but we are limited to the physic displacement we have. (and system available)
and unless you take hifi seriously and have money to burn (and build a room specifically to enjoy the hobby…) its preferable to buy components first.

Sure, the room is important, and an expensive system in a poor room is a waste. Both parts are important in the end

True.
What I personally won’t do (as I’ve seen at some high-end auditions)
is break the song down (decomposing music) and analyze it separately, rather than enjoy the performance.
I will always privilege interpretation over sound quality.
(so we must find a sweet spot within the room/system limitations)

I was kidding….sorry

I made the change from a four box 272/555DR/300 setup to an eight box 282/NAPSC/HCDR/300/ND5XS2/MScaler/Qutest spread across two Fraims, very pleased with the result and an end game setup for me.

True……always preferred Yamaha in my riding days.
If you have not already, have a listen to a Auralic Vega G2.1 fronting your ATC’s. :ok_hand:

Listening to an EAR 912 (almost new) I’ve been offered - now that’s a replacement for my 272. Amazing sound with ATC SCM19A actives.

Perhaps it is time to break up the old flatearther brand loyalty to Linn/Naim. It was 36 years ago I last owned a valve amp. Going to sleep on it before I decide.

You only pass this way, but once………go for it, if it feels right for you….:ok_hand:

I listened several times to Auralic during the Moscow Hi-End Show 2021 a month ago. Analytical sound to me, no soul, no feelings. Just details.
Cambridge Edge NQ was even much better.
Naïm touch was very very far away.

I often wonder about impressions gained at shows. In a straight swap of my 272/XPSDR with the Vega G2 the Auralic won easily. It’s certainly very revealing of source material, but eighteen months later, with my SCM40As, gives me regular goosebumps and shivers. It’s about as far from soulless and without feeling as I’ve had in my home in nearly half a century of hifi ownership. I’ve just finished listening to the wonderful June Tabor on the ECM album Quercus: magnificent and extremely moving. But I guess we all all have different requirements from our systems and all hear things differently.

I am obviously not allowed to post the link but if you google “DIY loudspeaker projects EAR 912” you will find a good detailed write up about it.

Blimey. :ok_hand: :+1:

Not sure about that – I see a Chord Hugo TT2 coming in at some point…

Keep it quiet I’m saving for a Rodney.

as always, the 272 thread delivers! have mine in a box upstairs but think I need to fire it up again with a new 250 and some Spendors.

the 272 volume dial is lovely. 252 volume control is better now after the inside IainW tip.

What tip was that, I’ve gone from a 272 to a 252 and miss the beautiful volume control.
