the film is called A Complete Unknown , after all, and it’s a manifesto as much as a title. But it does mean that this is more a movie about Dylan the phenomenon than Dylan the man; a picture that peers at the folk legend through the distorting lens of fame and fan worship.
Belated Valentines Day trip out with Mrs Hanumike to see Bridget Jones Mad About The Boy today and it wasn’t half bad well I didn’t fall asleep anyway!!
The Monkey last night based on Stephen king shirt story. Hilarious comedy deaths , a good bit of B movie horror trash escapism
Just back from seeing Bridget Jones : Mad About The Boy. What a treat - easily the best since the first film. The whole tone was different - less pratfalls and some emotional heft as it dealt with grief. Superb turn from Renee Z as BJ. Great cameo from Emma Thompson as a gynaecologist and it is now safe to say that Hugh Grant is officially a national treasure - he steals every scene that he is in, playing a rueful aging lothario
On my ‘must see’ list (Before the actual Conclave).
G
Bridget Jones the other week and agree it is as good if not better than the first.
Today, we’re seeing The Brutalist and the cinema is looking a bit empty for the 1240 screening!
Captain America last night. Quite good.
Went to the back of the theatre and took a pic of my wife with A Complete Unknown about to start. Loved the movie in what seemed like a private screening. ![]()
Does the curtain actually get raised?
Just for show I think.
1917. That was 5+ years ago. Doubt I’ll ever go to the cinema again. Covid one reason. Burps from obese patrons washing down popcorn with soda the other reason. I loved the silver screen when I was younger. Other than dating, I can’t imagine why anyone would go through the bother and expense in today’s world.
because its an evening out and my local cinemas now have big reclining seats so fewer people, its under £10 and supporting the film industry, and a lot of films are so much better on a proper screen with dolby surround.
I have an Odeon pass and go nearly every week. It’s good value.
We get two free tickets each month for our local Vue cinema from Sky.
I take in a flask of coffee and I also bring in my noise cancelling headphones to mute the excessive adverts.
On the one hand it’s a free afternoon out, but on the other hand the monthly cost of Sky is eye watering.
I pay to stream movies at home, supporting the film industry as well. Watching at home also supports the planet by reducing my carbon footprint not travelling to a theatre. Hollywood’s not hurting for money. Mother Earth is hurting, and so in turn is humanity. If the choice was to support live actors at a local theatre group then I’d be be willing to exhaust some CO2.
Enjoyed it too, thought the ending a bit of a let down though.
As ever, different in the book!
Last night D and I went to see Black Bag at the cinema.
Great film; a short, tight, and smart spy thriller right to the end.
I’ve just come back from seeing an early morning (well 10:30) showing of the latest Mission Impossible with my daughter and very enjoyable it was too! It is a relatively long film but the time flew past. The action was snappy without being overdone and featured a novel way of showing that fighting was taking place without actually showing the fighting in one scene. The feature scenes were well worked and the stunt work by Mr Cruise was top notch. It neatly closes off Part 1 and is certainly recommended (on the big screen).
