We’re off to see it tonight, on Imax laser no less. Whatever that is…
absolutely no idea
Imax will certainly do it justice. Have a great evening & hope you enjoy it.
The Ballad of Wallis Island
Touching, affecting, charming and sometimes funny. Easily recommended.

Edit: Often funny
28 Years Later this afternoon. I thought this was just brilliant. There’s something about Danny Boyle that reminds me of Powell/Pressburger - a real flair and imagination to his direction. There are some truly appalling and gruesome scenes but also some genuine moments of comedy. The cinematography is just stunning and the scenes with Ralph Fiennes are profoundly moving. Plus the added bonus of a soundtrack from Young Fathers and it’s a definite thumbs up
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Don’t normally like horror/vampire/zombie stuff (Mrs Si loves it !), but this was a very different take on it. A bit of MadMax end of days about it.
Without giving out any spoilers: a slightly uncomfortable ending !
Yep I liked it a ot too, and the closing scenes were just hilarious!
Sequel incoming ![]()
Hilary and I sat ourselves in a nicely air conditioned dark room this afternoon. On the train home now and sweltering. 28 years later was on at the same time and like others we greatly enjoyed it. The young lad playing the main character is really good, Jodie Comer too. But what a curveball last 20 minutes or so. Didn’t see that coming…
The film has been described as ‘The Wicker Man with zombies’!
I heard apparently all shot on iPhones. Having said that I’m not 100% sure I’m not telling a massive porky.
MOSTLY shot on iPhones.
To think I could make a v similar movie with my phone if only Jodie Comer would take me seriously and return my calls.
Careful with that restraining order Eugene…
In fairness, I saw one “how we shot it” photo, and there was a camera rig with at least 3 iPhones strapped to it for multi shot purposes.
So yea, shot on iPhone. But not shot on an iPhone !
Saw F1 last night. Ok, so it’s Top Gun: Maverick in a car. And a mashup of pretty much every car movie made to date (Mark Kermode described it as Grand Days of Top Thunder Prix Rush Gun Maverick.) But it’s an assault on the senses, and if you can suspend disbelief (if you know anything about racing,) it’s a proper Hollywood summer blockbuster.
Yes, the script writes itself. Yes, the characters are all one-dimensional. Yes, it’s a vehicle for Brad Pitt. Yes, there are parts where it’s a frame-by-frame reshoot of Top Gun: Maverick (same director.) But wow - what a ride (pun accidental.)
I was genuinely surprised how much I enjoyed it. Makes you wish Hollywood would do more of this vs the reboots and sequels. Interested if anyone had the same experience seeing it. ![]()
F1 is the last movie I saw in the cinema. The sort of movie you can watch with your son but maybe not your wife.
I liked it!
Movie Cinemas needs these type of movies to survive TBH, something that you can only really enjoy and absorb fully on a massive screen and pumping sound.
Art house and other highbrow movies can been seen on Streaming services anywhere at anytime.
I usually wait for that and save my hard earned for these throwback adrenaline pumping monster movies. I seen Top Gun Maverick twice at the cinemas, I can’t remember the last time I did that.
Completely agree on all points. I’d pay to see it again.
FWIW, I saw Maverick at home with a decent HT setup and big enough screen - was really good but didn’t compare to the experience of F1. Had I seen it in the cinema with a massive screen and pumping sound as you say, I think I would have felt the same way about it as I did with F1
I did see it with Mrs. Finkle, she loved it. Her favourite line was when JPs mom first sees Brad Pitt.
I get what you mean.
F1 on Friday, thought the best part was the trailer for the new Naked Gun and the bit with OJ Simpson’s son (possibly not real son).
Any way…. Yes camera work in cars good but so was Top gun. The rest was utter dross for me but YMMV.
I can confirm that the recliner seats are worth paying for. I may have had a little snooze.
