Is the original recording done in digital or to tape?
I think its done from tape but am not certain just suprised that modern day cds cant match it. Acrually purchased riddim series mad proffessor dub album which was from tape machine and its got that very realistic analogue sound. its also got that modern day inky blackness background as well.

Prodigious album and sound quality!
Between jazz, gospel and soul.
Great stuff! Thanks!
I wouldn’t add that album to my audiophile album list, if I had one.
It sounds rather nice, indeed. The album is quite enjoyable, and so is “Stay Tuned” her other album .
But both albums sound clearly as a nice tailored studio product.
Not what I would qualify as natural, or audiophile for that matter.
The kind of album I would add to a potential audiophile list would be like the following:
“Palority”
Recorded by the recording guru Morten Lindberg from 2L recording
Don’t agree with you. The sound of the album I cited is particularly good sounding for my ears. Very open soundstage, realism of the voices, clarity, dynamic…separation of instruments.
It’s a must in the quality of the recording. At least for my ears and system.
2l recordings:
2L is highly committed to multi-channel recording, using the Auro 3D standard and Dolby Atmos, which adds height effect to the more common 5.1 surround sound configuration. As I only have a 2.1 system I listened to the SACD version rather than the Blu-ray that comes with this release.
I will not use the term of natural sound when this kind of recording is made.
However will download a track to listen on my system and will report.
I didn’t say it sounded bad (give my message a second read…). Not at all. It shows all those “audiophile attributes” which are able to flatter any hihi system.
But natural… well not to my ears.
A very nicely tailored studio product.
As for voices, here is another 2L produced album that renders voices in a natural way:
This is a copy/past from a “The Ear” review… ![]()
Yes, absolutely. The only one information I could quickly find on 2l recordings…
I have not said it’s from mine…
Well, you didn’t say it wasn’t yours…
And you base your opinion on second hand information and recording techniques, without even listening to the album…
Interesting… Not the way I judge an album.
I gave a listen to the first four tracks and the voices are fantastic.
I have a listen of this album, but not my kind of music unfortunately.
I don’t judge it, just respond to you when you said that the album I cited is a nice taylored studio album. I disagree.
For me it sounds like a direct live recording, without extra processing, like Dolby Atmos and other effects.
But I don’t say your album sounds bad. Not at all.
A lot of audiophile recordings sound very good, but natural, not always. They are often too processed.
Personally i am not a fan of pure audiophile recordings like ECM, it’s too polished for me. But I don’t say that ECM is not great however…
2l are recording in dsd, if I don’t say wrong information. For me, I am not the only one, dsd on Naim streamers sound dull and boring. Better have 24 bit or good 16/44 with Naim.
Do you actually know what Dolby Atmos is?..
It is not an “effect”. It is a multichannel recording and replay technique (5.1 , 7.1 , etc).
Our systems are stereo. So, I don’t see your point here…
Again I don’t see your point.
Polarity and LJOS are produced by 2L, not ECM…
ECM and 2L are two very different labels by the way.
That’s wrong, indeed.
2L recordings are encoded in DXD, which is PCM not DSD.
Who said 2l is ecm?
Not me
I don’t know what is DXD , I just quickly went on 2l site and saw dsd recordings…
Perhaps better not continue our discussion, which however you stupidly begun, saying that the album I cited was not audiophile and natural sounding. Are you a reference in studio recording to say that? And what was really the point?
Better close now.
FR, take a big breath and relax ![]()
You really don’t like others to have different opinions, do you?
And please, behave and keep polite…
I just prefer to close that discussion. Which was a nonsense since its beginning and irritating from you
Reading this interchange is almost embarrassing, a little like being accidentally privy to a domestic dispute! FR, I think you need to take a break from the keyboard.
I have nothing to add . This discussion was a complete nonsense from the beginning. I overreacted, I agree.
However your post didn’t encourage me to close the discussion.
So thanks in advance, please do not respond.
