Joni’s ‘Miles of Aisles’ is a wonderful live recording of real music rather than plinky plonk audiophile noises.

Nice record, thanks!
You’ll probably enjoy the following one from Chesky Records.
A binaural direct recording with very light mastering work.
As live as it can be.

In the discussion above there was a question as to what DXD is. DXD is PCM at 352 khz.
If you want to know if your system can handle the sample rate or want to see if you can hear a difference, there is a fine free comparison sampler available here;

"I think we would all agree that this recording sounds sensational…"Audiophile StyleI have all those shown, & more, of the Sound Liaison albums.
All excellent recordings & musicianship.
Hrrmph! I downloaded three DSD albums from Sound Liaison, all at one point mentioned above. They do indeed sound uncannily realistic, but the metadata was defective on two of them. In particular, track numbers were missing. As a result, the tracks appeared in alphabetical order (probably done by the OS) with Minimserver. I was puzzled why Take five and its reprise were successive tracks on the Feenbrothers album, which seemed odd and led me to discover the problem. (They should have bookended the album.) I also use Asset server which threw a hissy fit and missed out several tracks completely. To sort it out, I had to go online to find the correct track order and then use my metadata editor to insert correct track numbers. Not what I would expect for a premium and premium-priced product and a warning to anyone downloading from Sound Liaison to check the metadata before storing it on their NAS.

I found the same when I downloaded them when they were first released. I e-mailed the cmpy & engaged in a few mail exchanges showing them what’s needed in metadata & they did correct the specific albums I mentioned, but it seems they have not gone back to rework other stuff.
I did go back to check all their releases I had & in many/all they needed rework to some extent.
I found the most common error was Album Artist tag missing & track listing.
And you enjoy the music?
Shure!
very well said.
Some recordings tend to get better with time while indeed others fade.
Probably this also shows that listening is depended on the mood one is having at the moment of that first listen. So objective listening does not exist.
Most of the albums are indeed jazz or blues influenced with a few exceptions;
The albums with classical trumpet virtuoso Andre Heuvelman, those albums are light classical/world music.
Check this 1959 recording;
That records has it all : brilliant interpretation of Haydn’s sonatas and amazing recording.
The sound’s airy, detailed and the room in which it was recorded was brilliantly captured. Really gives the illusion of the real thing.
It sounds marvellous ![]()
Another 1959 recording! The golden year of recording.
