Now this is strange. I’ve read a lot on this forum about the need to ‘burn in’ a new amp – and my dealer said much the same when setting up the system earlier.
But, my 300DR is five hours old and I’m convinced it’s better than the 3-year old model I’ve been fortunate to have on loan since Xmas. I don’t think this is wishful thinking / optimism bias. Hopefully I’m alert to that.
I’ve been playing a range of music since plug in – Nick Drake, Doors, Eurythmics, John Coltrane, Midnight Oil, Beatles, Steely Dan. Not sure how to explain what I’m hearing without resorting to cliché – so I won’t.
Maybe it’ll turn to mush tomorrow but I’m in a sweet spot at the moment (especially the bass) – I’m surprised and delighted.
I think he may have boxed it for return. But there’s loads of pics of mine on the forum. Just search for a thread with “Luxman” and “Omega” in the title.
Update on my Nak CR-4. Yesterday afternoon, a mate came round with some contact cleaner and thoroughly sprayed the pots of the record level control. The result was the meters started to behave:
However, when playing back a test recording, the main component of the sound was a hell of a lot of crackling with the music just audible in the background. Next course of action is to replace the pots.
Of course, we also need to exonerate the record head…
That could be the caps that need replacing. My ZX-9 started doing similar and so when it went to B&W for a service Paul also went though and replaced any capacitors that needed doing or might be suspect.
Playback of previously recorded tapes and pre-recorded tapes is excellent, though, but I suppose it could be a cap or caps in the record side of things.
I’d actually be quite surprised if it’s had any of its caps replaced!
Not quite Hi-Fi, but we needed a decent little radio to use at our other house and this Ruarkaudio R1 fits the bill nicely. FM and DAB reception is not brilliant in this particular location on the North Norfolk coast, but this manages to pull in all the stations we need. SQ is pretty decent too.
Ekos se, chord epic, radical 2 burning in nicely, my system sounds so different in a very good way, soon be time to visit cymbiosis and listen to some amps.
There is a few of us that dont currently have any Naim components in their main systems but remain Naim fans. Saying that, there is a couple of Naim Powerline lites in my system…
