Thanks for this, really interesting and I hadn’t heard any of this. She is clearly is doing a fantastic job and having a huge influence.
Like @Neilb1906 I am another recent buyer of the 700m2 amp and I’ve been stunned at how good it is.
Wall mount sticker for cables (that can be removed without leaving marks). Great sound hides in the small tweaks Lavender now flying.
Ok, definitely in the slightly over the top but bought a spare remote for new Technics SU-G700M2 purchase.
With some of the key functions only available from the remote didn’t want to have a broken or lost one become a longer term issue.
Now to be put in the amp box, wrapped up and in the loft.
Reminds me of the Beo4 B&O remote.
I can see a conversation with Mrs A in about 10 years time : “now where did I put that spare remote ?”
Lol, that question does get asked but not in reference to me, the scariest words in our house are when mrs a says “it’s in a safe place”.
Bletchley Park can’t even decode what that can mean.
Only in appearance, doesn’t have any heft. It’s decent enough and does the job.
My Densen Gizmo remote is a work of art, going to have to wait till all that gear has been serviced to be able to use it again however.
Today I got my NAP250DR. I went from NAP200 to the 250DR. It is a step up. But not as big as I thought. Or my NAP200 was just very good.
I also got myself a XPS from non Naim. That was I nice step up. Connected on the NDX.
Give it time to settle in. Is it new?
No not new 2017.
Busy year for upgrades. Started with Musical Fidelity MX-HPA Headphone Amp, which I like because it reproduces sound well enough for my Sennheiser HD 650s while capitalizing on the NDX2 DAC.
I then acquired an REL S/510 subwoofer to compliment the Harbeth Super HL5+ 40th Anniversary ed. speakers. It supplements the system very nicely after carefully adjusting crossover and volume.
This week I took delivery of and installed a 252 and Supercap DR, replacing a 282 with dual HiCap DRs. Still running in and the sound is amazing already.
I strongly recommend getting a second S/510, if/when you can afford it. It makes a big difference. I went from single to pair of RELs some years ago, and a few months ago upgraded those to a pair of REL S/510. And I have large floorstanders that go down to 28Hz -3db
Neotech Nemos 3080 speaker cable. Quite a step up from Naca 5. It’s hard for me to tell what the differences really are. I have problems assigning changes in sound to different aspects of it. But here we go. Punchier, more nuanced with more depth and width, air and details. Also crispier (can that be said about sound?). Maybe also cleaner. Deeper bass (an obvious trait really). Perhaps too much bass? (Has nothing to do with depth, rather with amplitude making bass a bit “hot” at times. It’s not always though, which is interesting. All in all it’s promising so far and it’ll be interesting to see if the sound changes more over time. I did not find the bass prominent when the cable were brand new out of the box.
BackToNaim, I used the standard connection recommended by REL as shown in the attached. My Naim dealer soldered a ring on the end of each of the three wires, which slipped conveniently over the posts on the Naim speaker wire connectors at the amp end. I crimped them a bit to ensure contact, then plugged the (R) and (L) connectors to the amp. The plug on the other end of the REL wire goes into the REL sub. By using this method, the sub is picking up (and playing) signal from both (R) and (L) channels.
Thank you for the tip. I chose one sub because I have a small listening area. The only thing between the (R) and (L) speakers in the photo is a 65” plasma TV, which I cover with a lovely wool blanket when listening to music, to reduce sound reflection. I’m sure I’d love a pair but thought it might be overkill for a 12’ x 12’ room (approximately 3.7 meters squared).
@2WheelsRBetter is the REL connected directly to your Nap 250 dr? Are you not getting any distortion or earthing issues and is the cable standard supplied with the REL
