I use my atc 40a’s straight into the ring main whilst the rest of the system is plugged into a puritan mains conditioner. I know this is different than what you were thinking of doing but it still sounds excellent.
In the pic, it’s the Opticon Mk2 LCR but I do have Oberon On-Wall for the surrounds. They are extremely good both.
I had a lot of years in small apartments with no hifi at all and now I’m kicking myself because on-wall speakers are real hifi. Paired with the KEF subs, the Opticons give a truly massive presentation. I’d not hesitate to use either sans sub in a floorspace restricted hifi.
Nice setup. Is your dealer Next Level hifi? He seems like a good guy, I’ve gotten fair quotes on various Naim bits from him in the past. Always wanted to hear how Borrensen & Aavik electronics sound.
Those are very good looking speakers. It’s all very nicely done and I bet it sounds great. It’s always good to see soot sprites too.
Yes Next Level HiFi is my dealer and they are excellent.
Bought a used but well fettled/serviced Hohner Erika with zinc plate H reeds tuned D/G for English folk. A beautiful sounding instrument, as well as being small and light.
I am enjoying my, albeit challenging, journey from piano accordion to diatonic melodian. The melodian feels more expressive, or at least easier to be expressive possibly due to the more intimate bellow control.
Pictures, or it didn’t happen ![]()
Agh is that the rule? I’ll snap a picture later ![]()
I am assuming you can post any musical gear, not just hifi products.
Always worth trying diffferent options but I would avoid a mix of speakers on the ring sockets and Atom on your dedicated mains as the XLR leads would then be creating an earth loop between the two mains circuits.
If your Atom has a grounding switch on the back then you could do the above and set it to the “floating” position but then your system ground is derived from the ring (via the speaker mains leads and through the XLR) which may be less than optimal.
There speakers are beautiful. They remind me Sonus Faber Cremona Auditor looking.
Thanks Richard. I hadn’t considered the earthing implications. Certainly one of the best mains changes I made was getting the dedicated mains earth taken back to the meter. It would be shame to float the Atom and then use the house mains. Aren’t things complicated?
Hi Nigel, no I don’t play the harmonium or even have access to one, though I guess I could. My folk instruments are two piano accordions, a 96 and 48 bass, several high D whistles and now a D/G melodion… my focus at the moment is the melodeon as it’s new to me and is so well suited to so many morris and folk songs… and quite a mental / muscle memory conversion challenge coming from a piano accordion
Wonderful.
I finally succumbed and purchased a Lyra Kleos SL this year. I have spent my life using midrange cartridges like the Dynavector DV17D2 and AT-OC9, but after reviewing high end cartridges like the Sumiko Pearwood, Kleos SL and AT-ART 20 I came to realise that they do take you closer to the music in a very meaningful way.
It’s best not to think too much about replacement cost though as you play albums! I came exceptionally close to buying the ART 20 but in the end the allure of the Lyra got the better of me. I couldn’t in truth say which is better and I never had them here at the same time for a back to back comparison - needless to say both are sublime examples of the cartridge makers art.
Of course having bought the Lyra I decided to invest in a record cleaning machine as there was no way I was going to subject it to a second hand vinyl purchase of unknown provenance. So a Keith Monks Prodigy Deluxe now illuminates a corner of the living room. I actually purchased the review sample as I was so impressed with its performance for the price.
Although streaming via the NDX2 still makes up the bulk of my listening, I’m still enjoying vinyl - content that I’ve finally reached the level I always aspired to. It’s taken me 43 years since I started buying records to play on my Dad’s Technics SL-BD22 turntable, or 36 years since I bought my first vinyl spinner - a Systemdek IIX/Linn LVV to get here! The journey has been a joy though and it’s hard not to conclude that the Systemdek IIX/NAIT/Mordaunt Short MS30 that was my first system and took me through university probably got played more than anything else and comes out on top in smiles per pound spent!
I do of course run dedicated phono stages - either my Trichord Dino Mk III or the PS Audio Stellar. Turntable is a Michell GyroDec with Orbe clamp, the Gyropower QC power supply and all the latest upgrades including Maglev feet and rubber coated springs. Tonearm is the legendary SME Series IV which I dreamt of owning since I read its first review in Hi-Fi News around 1987!

I thought you’d bought a fancy air bearing type arm there Jonathan and then realised after reading your post, it’s actually the record cleaner ![]()
Haha! nice one James!

As long as you choose the audio equipment, its happy days ![]()
The beauty is the decor doesnt matter so much as you can always close your eyes and drift off into audio heaven…
I love the look of the Accuphase kit.
Sonically, how does it compare to the Naim?
No one is drifting anywhere on that seat. I sat on it for 30 mins on my lunch break. That was 5 hrs ago. I am still sore.
