What was the last bit of gear you bought in 2024?

What Marantz CDP are you getting?

SA-12SE. Like a few others it seems😉

nice machine

I hope so…

Marantz SA models are good Cd players

That’s interesting, I’ll have a mess about this weekend as I’m using the stock cable into mine.

They are good players. And I like that Marantz made the decision to design and manufacture their own SACD drive rather than run the risk of buying something in that then becomes unavailable. Their own drive was first used in the top-end SA-10, and has then “trickled down” to the SA-12 and the 30n.

I’ve just got an Arcam Solo Uno for my study and I must say that I’m impressed.

It’s never going to take over from the main system but it makes for a very pleasant second system for listening while I work (through my Dynaudio 52 speakers).

Not bad for under half the price of a Naim Powerline.

Well I would be giving it a go if it wasn’t for an error with the cable they actually shipped, ordered a Y2 and received a Y3, wrong end for the Wiim.

Ah. Yep need a C7/figure 8 plug.

I guess the Y3 replaces the Y2 and perhaps they don’t have C7 version as yet? If at all…

Yeah, I ordered the right one, they just shipped the wrong one, oh well, will revisit later.

New speakers in the house, Audiovector Trapeze RI, replacing Dali Epicon 6. The Epicon 6 is a great speaker, albeit somewhat “polite” and perhaps a little clinical. The Audiovectors, on the other hand,
while doing all the hifi stuff, are much more “live” sounding and have much better bass, too (also at low listening levels). Still running in, but already a very worthwhile improvement over the Epicons.

Remind me of the very early thiel speakers

Although as is typical in the cold light of day of a disappointing delivery, I’m now thinking I’ll give the wrong cable a go where it will fit and see what I think and then go look for a backfill for the wrong one ….

Well I couldn’t begin to explain the hows and whys but it’s not an exact science in my experience. For instance, it doesn’t seem to matter what power cable I put on my TT, it makes no difference. Same as on a Nak and Denon cassette deck. I have also tried and returned some cables which didn’t seem to make any difference at all, no matter what I put them on.

However, ime, Powerlines defo. improve any Naim component I’ve plugged them into. Atlas power cables do a good job on most things I’ve tried them on and these Audioquest Y absolutely improve the Mu-So and the Wiim Ultra, both having less presence, a bit flatter, without them.

They are lovely! Hope you enjoy them

Thank you. I most certainly do, they’re tremendous speakers with a very solid and clear soundstage that emphasizes the live aspect of music. Looking forward to them being fully run in (they only have about 15 hours on them at present). They’re a modern version of the original Trapeze that was made about 40 years ago, when I just started getting into hi-fi, which was one of the first really good speakers that I heard at a friend’s place (with Quad amplification and an STD 305 turntable as I recall).

New set of cables between de cd and the amp.
In line with the speaker cable, quite a step up.

What fabulous looking speakers. Delightfully different. I’ve heard a couple of different Audiovector speakers and they were really excellent.

Grado GS3000x headphones. I had thought I would never buy a headphone setup again and yet here I’ve just purchased these. It was a long wait to get them as the unit I received had a defect and this unit had to be ordered from Grado USA.

I’m not bowled over by the wood colour. I would’ve preferred the reddish tint but hey I guess this is a more natural look to wood.
