Hey @1GiantLeap
Have to start by saying, love your listening room and your system. It’s also been an inspiration, these past few years.
Listening to music can be about all the audio equipment - and the geeky faffing and fiddling too, which can be fun - but always thought it’s as much about the room as an attractive space too. Listening rooms should be an inviting and relaxing space. Personally, I’d rather share music ( and a glass of wine ) with friends and family.
For some years, our aim was SN3 and PMC Twenty5 23i. However, the PMC active modules appearing caused a sideways movement. To explore active options. At the same time, we were able to swop our SN3 for a NAC282. Our “end game system” turned out to be more accidental than the long planned project we envisaged. So, yes, loving the separate pre-amp and active speakers, it’s a phenomenal sound to enjoy.
Think we maybe have one or two moves left to complete the system. Still looking to add a psu to our nDAC.
Our digital system - and the room it occupies - is still a work in progress. We are diligently working around our new house and finishing things. So, we are mostly using the Olive system in 2025.
It’s been a busy year - with other things - so music has been a minor ( rather than major ) thing in our life…
Busy at work, which is normal, we migrated from a legacy system over to Shopify - for our e-commerce platform - which was a big project. Fortunately, no long distance travelling at work during this year, which has been nice given that we brought a puppy into our lives.
Dora the Fox Red Labrador came into our lives in January. Walking a dog again has been fantastic, maybe 10k a day. She’s nearly 10 months now, going through “adolescence” stage.
Our adult daughter is getting married in 2026. Many many things to sort and get right for this major life event.
We moved into a new house in 2021, so DIY tasks are an ongoing activity. We ( me and my best mate, my wife) are currently re-developing the back garden. Which is a proving to be a lot of work. Today, we were painting fence timbers.
Life goes on. We’ve spent a lot of time outdoors in 2025. Sometimes the passion and hobby - music and HiFi - has to take a back seat for a while.
In the meantime, made a big effort this year to finish the “set up” for our Olive system…
Here is a system pic for you
If we hadn’t already invested in Naim Olive recently - Project Olive, during 2021 - think we would have jumped at the N50, such a fantastic idea from Naim.
FWIW, in our case, box count is not so much an issue. So three olive boxes, plus other shoe boxes, is no problem in our house.
Happy listening with your new addition into the house. NN50 is such a nice shoe box.
Anyway, watch this space, as we move into autumn and return indoors once more, maybe I’ll find time to get system 2 ( digital first) all set up and working and singing for the winter.
Keeping this post on topic - “what was the last bit of gear you bought in…” - we brought heavier ( c/w thick interlining ) curtains home this week and hung them in the “ system 2” room. For dual purpose, both room acoustics as well as interior design.
Image note : New curtains, still a bit creased, give them a few days to hang and relax.
Best wishes
R
