What was the last bit of gear you bought in 2025?

While the observation is almost certainly true, it’s also correlation not cause. I don’t know of many/any manufacturers where a box gets cheaper as it gets heavier. I think the observation could just as easily be “as they get more expensive in the same brand, the quality seems to improve.”

I’m sure there are exceptions out there that prove the rule though.

Ex Demonstrator Klimax DSM/3!

Having used the Wattson Audio Madison LE streamer for a while, the interface (pre-Qobuz Connect) using Wattson Music drove me a bit mad, and coupled with the slightly too dry presentation at times, led me to a search for another flagship streamer option for the main 500 system. I tried an ex dem dCS Rossini Apex, but with 500 series gear, it was waaaaay too in your face compared to the lovely sounds from LINA, so that led me to an ex-dem Linn KDSM/3… It is so musical and it is settling in really well, and the Linn interface is absolutely amazing - so slick and comprehensive… The outstanding Mike Cunningham from Criterion Audio is coming to help ensure it is all set up as best as possible in a few days and he’s bringing a Melco S100 to see if that’s an extra upgrade for the internet solution I have…

Currently, I just have the copper (40mbps) internet feed pass through the BT home hub through a DIY patch cable straight into the Linn, without any extra switch or network filtration. I would love any collective experience of what has been a great upgrade for the DSM when using Qobuz for the majority of the listening. I did buy an ADOT MC01 with the plug-top LPSU from an internet auction site, but it was dead on arrival for some reason. If the Melco and Linn both accept SFP optical network connections, can I get the ADOT uplift by simply buying an SFP cable and adaptors and connecting these units together, and allowing the rest of the Melco S100 internals to tidy-up the incoming internet feed from the BT router??

I didn’t noticed a lack of Prat with the Gryphon Essence. Can’t say for the 333, I didn’t listened enough time.

@james_n is your guy.
Personally, as the Linn is a bit less involving vs the Nds or Nd555, but more refined, I would not go for a switch which has some lack of drama and involvement, like the Melco S100.
More PhoenixNet, or EE8 switch.

One thing I like about gryphon , they have full set for demo, not mixing any other Makes ..in my gryphon. AD.. ok I confessed they do mix CH precision for source

I heard only with Nd555, 333/300 and Meitner.

Is it true that , whatever mixing of boxes w naim amp, we do get the signature prat from naim ? Somehow when I pair w my dCS and esoteric with naim, I do get the naim prat effect … FR, are you mixing your EAR w your naim amp?

Gryphon with Naim sources give Prat, as Ear Yoshino with my NDS.
Not the case with quite 80% of tubes, neither Esoteric, neither Accuphase, CH Precision, Soulution and many other solid states.
My inner experience.

Yes, you can do that. If you just want plug and play ask you dealer to bring the ADOT single mode kit with him (Perhaps he could also get your MC01 working too ?) so you can compare copper from the S100 vs fibre. I use fibre myself into my KDSM, albeit with an MC01, the single mode kit and an iFi PSU.

Thanks very much indeed for this.

I read your profile system, and unless I’m mistaken, you have an SFP equipped switch that takes an optical input from the ADOT accessory converter, and then send onwards to the Linn as wired RJ45? I must confess, I find the connection complexity and choices available somewhat bewildering. But your solution looks very efficient - maximise the ADOT performance with the Ifi PSU and use a quality switch onwards into the streamer?

I had to return the MC02, so trying your accessory MC01 looks like an excellent option - did it make a significant impact on your Klimax sound quality?

A few comments here

I do have an SFP port equipped switch (A Cisco GS110) that sits in my home office along with the other network kit (Virgin modem, mesh router, Roon Nucleus) as my main switch, and that connects to the lounge via 25m or so of Ethernet cable. At the lounge end it plugs into the MC01 and then via fibre into the KDSM. Certainly worth experimenting here, as you have a few options to try to see what works for you.

Whichever option you choose, you’ve got a fantastic source to enjoy. I’ve had mine nearly 3 years now and have no desire to look elsewhere.

Hi James, I’m curious as to why you would use a media converter rather than just running fibre straight from the switch to the streamer, eliminating an extra box and its power supply. Is this an audiophile converter that’s designed to add something as opposed to a regular consumer grade FMC?

Wow, your cables are going to end up being more expensive than your system! Enjoy and hope they are not too difficult to work with.

They are very easy to work with .. no tweaking nothing .. it’s like ansuz or any cables out there , once you synergies them w the same makes , the ladder is easy to climb , with nothing but day and night improvement ..
Yup .. once a full loom Valhalla 2 ,I can actually buy a momentum integrated w some balanced .. however , I am very into cables in a system, hence I willing to invest big in cables ..

Hi Chris - That’s a good point and something I did try. It would have been a lot simpler, apart from routing in a permanent fibre installation across the house between the two rooms. I ran a 20m length of fibre I had between office and lounge just as a temporary setup to test out this option out but found I didn’t like the result.

I’ve tried a few different fibre options, including my old 2960 as the media converter, but found the MC01 single mode kit to work really well, finally bettering my trusty PhoenixNET.

No audiophile pretensions intended here using the ADOT kit - just ease of plug and play for me. With a lot of these things you can do it cheaper and equally as effective if you have the time on your hands.
