What was the last bit of gear you bought in 2025?

Wow.. Borresen C1.. that is 1 hell of a speaker. How does the RCA connection work in a 500-series system. Using the 552’s phono RCA?

No RCA out on a 552, you would use a DIN4 to RCA lead from a spare socket on the 552 PS. Use a slugged cable unless you only need a short one.

No doubt, that’s why I’m curious what you find. Sometimes this audio hobby can be a funny thing, & Naim seems to have even more quirks.

11Hz is deep for a sub of any size. But for one as small as the KC62 it’s insane. KEF make incredibly good subs so unless you are inclined to spend way more on a jump to the high end RELs you are likely to find the 62 is very difficult to beat. I use two to fill a large living room AV setup.

I might end up staking the NDX2 on top of the 252 also. It’s powered off most of the time, and that might work better for having a Fraim of just four shelves.

At the level your system is it deserves just one more HRS EXR shelf.

I have just bought a 2nd Rel S 812. They have discontinued them so managed to get one just about from different supplier!

Another cracking deal!

I can’t add more shelves to that particular rack. The top of the turntable platter will sit 44" high. An additional shelve would increase that too much, but I don’t want it any higher.

Sometimes compromises need to be made. The other thing is to take the NDX2 off the racks and have longer leads made up and put it somewhere else, on a small table or under one. If you only use it occasionally I would be tempted to do that.

Thanks Dan, but there’s really no other place in the room for it. There’s also a XPSDR that has to go with it. Additionally, I’d bet long single-ended ICs going across the room would be far more detrimental to the sound than stacking the NDX2 on top of the 252.

You have a plan. It’s a secondary source. Whilst I am.not in favour of stacking Naim boxes I have done it myself with 2 x 135s some years ago.

Ironically older pics show all Naim boxes being stacked with 6 pack 135s and 32.5 and HiCap all stacked!

I took your advice. The S series Rels are running out. I wanted to wait a few months to pace things out! Wasn’t to be.

If I want to build a 4 array or 6 array I will have to buy used later on.

For the money the Rel 812 with just one is a big upgrade.

Good for you getting a 2nd REL. I think you’ll find the stereo pair brings more to the table than the sum of its parts.

I agree, it enables each subwoofer to work directly with each speaker. With high level connection it will work well. Talking to the dealer they said the S series is fantastic without spending big money. The best you can get for the money for music orientated systems.

For my speakers I took the advice of the Rel website and went for S 812s.

What’s clear is you need the right sub woofer for your particular speaker. Going higher or lower in the range isn’t recommended. I will keep the massive boxes somehow in case I change speakers at some point!

Have ordered a couple of better cables than Rel standards at 1.5m each from Designacable.

Are you using standard power leads?

I use the standard power leads. My dealer said whatever I use for power, they should be the same for all the subs. They have customers who have gone all in on fancy power cables for a six-pack, but that doesn’t seem necessary. I use REL Bassline Blue for the connection from speaker to first pair of subs, and some standard short Speakon cables for daisy chaining the array.

When I plugged in everything for my setup the REL website also recommended a S/812 stereo pair, but my dealer, who sells bazillions of RELs and knows my room, recommended I go with S/510 and that was when I was just getting a single pair. Now that I’m building a six-pack I’m glad I did, since I was able to acquire their ex-demo pairs.

I had a chat with dealer about changing up to bassline cables and he said theoretically they are better, but whether you hear any difference is not necesarily the case.

I like what you did with splitting one 3 metre cable. I will see how cables go with what I have bought. It means I can leave standard cables as they are, if I sell the Rel’s later down the line, if has all the factory supplied goods.

I will leave the power cables as they are.

Well, I am committed now. They don’t recommend mixing different Rels. I am S 812 man and you are S 510 man !

The price I paid for them is the same as S 510s normally.

My son is egging me on to buy 6! 2 for now!

I bought my first pair new, but on sale early 2024. The four additional 510s I got ex-demo for half price, so I save about $6k for those.

Just for curiosity, why not have bought Focal subwoofers, to go with Focal speakers?

Good question. As part of my research, it seems Rel make the best sub woofers for all speakers. The sub woofers are tailored for my Focal Sopra 2s. And the deal I got is absolutely amazing.

Rel work woth other speaker manufacturers and suggest appropriate sub woofers for different speaker brands. There is an online speaker matching service on their app.

And I may change speakers. But the sub woofers I have are good with a number of similar styled speakers.

For the cash and the performance I have a great deal!
