Yes. Have in mind though that a newer A series is said to perform better than an older C series and so on. That seems to be the case between series 1 and 2 at least.
Good to know! Thanks for the tip
When listening to the live session of “be still my heart” with Silje Nergaard and Tord Gustavson on pinao, the Ansuz A3 opened up the space and you get a much better sense of being immersed in the concert venue. Wenn S Nergaard starts to sing, her voice is more palpable. At the same time there a slight harshness in her sound. I think it is the recording and the overall amplification by the A3.
This track? I also listen a lot to Tord Gustavsen ![]()
If this track is what you refer to then I would say the voice is pretty harsh/sharply mixed with sibilance. It stands out a lot compared to other music I listen to.
Congratulations on the 585.5. I was also considering the beast. Curious how you rate the DAC module vs the DAVE. Enjoy. V
I can hear the voice is bit thin sometimes on this track but in my system the overall presentation is no problem and sounds full and airy and totally enjoyable.
i’ve got an A2 cable with my D3 power distributor, along with a bunch of aavik, borresen and ansuz equipment. i think this is a gorgeous recording, very genuine to my ears.
Terrific. great to know. The slight “harshness” after adding the A3 is evident particularly through my Hifiman 1000se which are quite sensitive. With my speakers it sounds more organic.
I just flag this one recording because every good update so far increased its space and transparency while reducing any harshness.
I think now that the A3 is not adding harshness. A little bit of high pitch sounds are in the character of the recording as @Blackbird said.
It’s been a busy month.
Started with trading in my ND5XS2 for a ex-demo NDX2 which led to an XPS-DR.
Ended up swapping the XPS-DR for a CD555PS. In the process I tried a CDS3 (transport issues) and a CD555, which was good, wasn’t far enough away from my CDi (or maybe just too good for my system. Going to wait now for the CDi to finally die, before going for a transport.
Oh, I added a hiline between the NDX2 and the SuperNait3.
I’m now wondering if I am under speakered (Focal Aria 926).
I have Ansuz C2 power cables and C3 distribution block among other things. Need to test the track on my DCA E3 headphones, but on my stereo it sounds very enjoyable. Her voice does have a sibilant nature but no issues playing it properly loud.
Focal aria 926, even an Atom deserves more. So maybe Focal Kanta if you like Focal sound.
I would say speakers > 2k would be a minimum.
I believe the usual distance to take the measurement from is one foot (300mm)
DG…
+1 for what @frenchrooster says: try the Kanta 2s if you like the Focal sound. I had them with a SN2 and NDX2 with 555 PSDR and it was a fantastic combination that I loved. Many years ago this combination was used at shows and impressed many forum members.
I’d say the Dac is a 5/10 it’s OK … I have a Chord Dave. I had hoped to be able to sell the Dave but the Dave in comparison so thoroughly crushed the Levinson Dac that I’m going to just keep the Dave. I have heard the phono stage in the Levinson is very very good but I don’t have a turntable .
There is less Emf with increasing distance of course but still “severe” at a distance where my interconnects end up in the vicinity of the A3 in my system ![]()
Try to create more distance, but difficult in my cup board
That doesn’t tell you the whole story though. I bet if you switch it to RF mode it reads zero.
My PowerLines read about 250vm (so much higher than yours) at a distance of about 5cm. If I put a ferrite choke on them it drops by about 20%. Which I find somewhat odd since ferrite chokes increase inductance to cancel out RF, but RF was zero to begin with up to 10Ghz. Conversely, my lower cost Furutech mains cables (from the pro-audio studio range, not the pricey audiophile range) read zero for every type of EM and RF. In fact, the only thing in any of my systems which gives an RF reading above zero is, believe it or not, the HiLine from the NDX to the preamp.
I wouldn’t automatically assume that a reading on the EM sensors is problematic. If you are concerned, a shielded cable. But if the mains doesn’t run parallel with 10cm of signal or speaker cables, I’d not worry about it. Remember, they will enter each unit bare and unshielded no matter what.
If you want to see am EM meter go crazy, hold it over the keyboard of an electric piano. You’ll start to see them go into the 500vm territory.
made up my own mains leads this weekend for my innuos and qutest power supplies (niam powerline lites before) with neotech nep3003 mk3, (mix of silver plated and plain occ copper), neotech occ copper uk plugs and furutech f15 plus rhodium iec. about £250 worth of parts and a couple of hrs of pleasant work . Given they need to run in a few more hrs, they have however changed the sound considerably with much more separation and making everything easier to follow. Really pleased with the lift.
You are right, RF reads zero. But that seems to be the case also with cheap stock power cables i looked at.
