After the sale of my Primare NP5 and Chord Hugo2 for the Wattson Audio Emerson ANALOG I needed to tame the CD input to my Nait2 (previously going via the Hugo2) so some Rothwell attenuators (-20dB) were purchased from @BrendanD. Lots more headroom! The Mojo2 was then purchased for laptop/headphone listening. It is so small! (CD only for reference). I always thought it was plastic but very solid ‘aircraft aluminium’. What a fantastic bit of kit!
Nait 50
Picked this up recently, without a belt and otherwise untested. New belt, drop of oil in the motor bearing and a tweak of the trim pots inside and its working like a charm. Rare made in Japan listening deck from Vestax who are mainly known for direct drive scratch decks and mixers. Designed with a built in (good quality) phono preamp to integrate with modern 90’s studio/hifi equipment when a phono input was not so popular. Also has infinitely adjustable pitch up to 92rpm for 78s. Sounds tip top connected to a Sony AV amp.
Later versions had a switch on the back to select line or phono output whereas this is only line out (BDT-2000)
It’s been a busy couple of weeks. Bristol hifi show parted me from my money for a chord shawline streaming cable to replace the c-stream I had with “free” with my EE8. Some Gaia II for my Kanta 3’s to tame the bass vibrations through our floating solid oak floor. They worked a treat and did everything advertised. Finally some Superlumina speaker cables arrived this morning to replace the NACA5 that I’ve enjoyed for the last few years. It think these’ll take a bit of getting used to, clearly sound a bit lighter than what they’ve replaced so I’ll give them some time before deciding whether to stick or revert. Regardless of the outcome I’m done with changes for the rest of 2026.
Hope you have some vinyl handy.
Beautiful looking TT. Very stylish.
Please let us know how this goes.
Naim Supercap (5/3/26) yesterday and a HiCap last week. I now have 2 HiCaps which will now be sold as I no longer need them to fund an 82 until such times as I can buy a 52.
Well ![]()
It turns out that in a rush to connect and leave playing whilst I went out for the day, the left channel had been connected back to front.
I’d been thinking they sounded rather thin although very clear, even turned my sub up a couple of notches to compensate!
So, the clarity remains and the body has returned (sub back to where it was) Everything has a better sense of depth so far and they still seem a little more airy than NACA5 so far but we’ll see how it goes over the next week. 2nd hand so presumably fairly well used.
NSS333/NPX300 upgraded from NDX2/XPSDR. It’s definitely better. In so many ways. Detail, depth, soundstage, clarity, definition, wow. And the NDX2/XPSDrCombination was and is and will always be superb! Well done Naim. Brilliant performance
I ordered another shelf for my HRS EXR rack. It’s a 4” shelf for my DAC, as well as my Clearaudio Terra (grounding station) and Professional Power 24v (turntable LPS)…i.e. the things sitting on top of the rack on the right. I also ordered an extra set of pillars to convert the 8” shelf I’m using for my 252 into a 4” shelf. That way I can add a shelf to the rack without raising the height much, since it has the turntable on top. I like the position of the turntable and don’t want to raise it much higher.
Once the top of the other rack is clear I can use it to stage vinyl records again.
The shelf and pillars will be here in about 4 weeks.
That TT is wild! Did the manufacturer modify an espresso machine lololol
just kidding, it’s beautiful
It’s a Clearaudio Master Innovation. All 150 lbs of it. It sounds absolutely sublime.
That is what happens when you get an unexpected windfall. ![]()
Fraim racks need not apply…
It’s the slow creep of Boulder stuff in the rack the gets me.
I had a look at their Japanese price list. Their pre and power amp costs more than it cost to build our house.
[addendum] I remember a Naim rep telling me decades back “we don’t do high end hifi. You should see what’s out there. The 52 is barely mid level hifi.”
I only have one Boulder component, which I bought a year ago. That might change in the next couple years though. The 1100 series pricing is roughly comparable to Naim 500 series, actually a bit less (for amp/preamp). But the higher series pricing is more like Naim Statement, or more.
I added a step up transformer from Studiotechnik Dusch in Germany (STX 21, based on EMT technology) between turntable and phonostage. It is the small but expensive black box behind the turntable. Made my own silver rca cables which I have led through thick teflon tubes. I used Klei silver rca hollow plugs which are nice to solder and relatively cheap. My DIY cables have lower capacitance than the vertere redlines I had before. Did not worry about any isolation or grounding. Seems not be an issue. I have much lower hum and noise than before. Almost inaudible at regular sound levels. The sound of vinyl playback is terrific now. I am amazed.
That’s the first time I have seen the tin edition 282 on the forum!
