What was the last bit of gear you bought?

It’s a great upgrade to a 272 IMO. The 555PSDR was the best but the Lumin took it even further. IMO it’s the streaming board in the 272 which is its weak spot both in terms of features but also that there are no more updates on its platform. The latest update for Lumin U1 mini very much shows that a platform can be improved further in audio quality. Lumin had collected roughly +20 user feedbacks and 18 of them confirmed a sonic improvement with the latest sw update released in July. So, 272 as a DAC and preamp I believe is pretty stable now when Naim left it for the history so having a streamer that can continue to live and be updated side by side is a great choice IMO. Just added a separate power supply to my Lumin too which is burning in nicely now. 4 weeks needed according to Sbooster.

I bought a Nagra Melody pre amp and was very happy with the SQ. The sound signature is, as you said , open, detailed, floating. I had NAC252, 282, 200 to compare over time. The Nagra tube pre amp is very special: more 3D and a great soundstage. I had this amp for a test and was blown away, bought it after I had enough € left

Re piano, I agree, on a lot of classic jazz recordings the piano sound is not very good, even on some modern records, must be a difficult instrument to mike up?

Nice, it’s a very well made pre amp.
I demoed the Nagra melody pre amp with Nagra integrated amp, on a pair of focal kanta speakers.
It was nice , I like the turning the bottoms on nagra, felt nice when I turn them even I don’t need to , but I just tuned it for fun haha.
I asked the Nagra dealer if nagra integrated and pre amp will work well for my sonus faber Amati speakers, he said I will need to go to separates to get enough power.
I demoed Nagra and Jadis sets with the same classic ablum on that day, they both sounded nice, Nagra sounds much more forward, felt like I’m s sitting in the front row in a concert . Jadis sounds farther away , more like in row 10-20.

Piccy time.

New Simrak in American black walnut with smoked glass shelves to replace an old Quadraspire Q4 in black with silver uprights. Smoked glass is on global shortage at the moment, so Simon has completed our rack with a couple of clear glass ones which he will replace as soon as smoked glass is available.

Other recent acquisitions include:

  • Witch Hat Phantom speaker cable (lovely)
  • Hana Umami Red cartridge (simply gorgeous)
  • MusicWorks Reflex G3 mains block (an act of faith…)
  • Oh, and an amplifier

Best regards, BF

Nice set up! I have a Simrack in Walnut with smoked glass, looks so classy and better looking than Fraim in my view. I’m currently waiting on a second base and top level to split my rack into brains/brawn. Judging by your comment I might have to wait a while in view of the glass shortage, which is no problem really as I’m not in a hurry!

Very nice. It’s perhaps the nicest rack available. :+1:

After a long wait, with zero availability I purchased a pre-loved Chord Hugo TT2, like new cosmetically perfect. Looking forward to getting it dialed in tomorrow!

Although on a lower level, my 1998 Tannoy D300’s sound really good with my Nova. Thankfully I’m not offended by naming them D300

Is it safe enough ?

I would think so. I know it has been discussed on the forum when it comes to long term use, but I can’t remember anyone actually reporting having the stylus or pick up damaged by this type of automated cleaning. So far so good here, and there is a risk for accidents with manual cleaning with a brush as well. (I don’t mean when removing obvious dust, but actually getting the stylus properly clean.) Perhaps the sticky cleaning is a good middle ground if one is suspicious of the automated vibration method.

Here at last!

Really nice quality and pleasantly easy to work with, perfect for my confined space.

Do they sound better ?

Interested to hear how the Entity is settling in and your thoughts on how flexible it is in terms of rack position (we’re running out of space!).

Maybe worth noting that ultrasound is not involved, it vibrates at an audible frequency

Correct, I will edit my post. Ultrasound is for some record cleaners. Thanks for the heads up.

Hi Andy, yes straight out of the box there is a definite improvement, certainly compared to the leads they replaced. When I spoke to one of the guys at Witch Hat they said that they need 200 or so hours before they really start to sing! So happy days :slightly_smiling_face:
