What Was The Last Vinyl You Bought?

This arrived earlier on. I have probably missed it but I cannot remembering seeing anyone else commenting on it. It’s two LPs, mono and stereo versions, in a single sleeve with a booklet; mastered by Kevin Gray and AAA according to reliable sources. I have listened to one side of mono and one of stereo and it’s sounding excellent.

Top marks awarded from Mr Ludwig. He doesn’t mention the issue with the title track of McDuff’s Moon Rappin’, but he raves about the overall recording quality of the drums, which I completely agree with.

The Post Lady just brought me another very nice Tone Poet :ok_hand:
Record is dead flat and perfectly pressed :+1:

I’ve not heard Mr Ludwig give a bad review.

He’s not a fan of Half Speed Abbey Road Mastering that’s for sure.

Thanks to @Richard.Dane for the heads up:

Another of Frederiksberg Records’ reissues of an ultra-rare private press album from the early 1970s:

Been toying with buying this for a while when I stumbled across a review in HiFi News (or HiFi Choice, can’t remember now) which carried a couple of bold statements “… the best sounding One Step yet …” and “… replaces the 1968 Casino Royale as the best sounding LP in my collection …” convinced me to bite the bullet and order it.
I already have SRV’s Couldn’t Stand The Weather on One Step and it is phenomenal so I couldn’t wait for Pearl to arrive, which it did yesterday. Like the SRV the packaging is top notch and the vinyl perfectly quiet. For me though the sound is bloody awful. Joplin’s voice is shrill and cutting. The leading edges on guitar and piano are exceptional but there isn’t enough bass weight to support and offset the harshness of Joplin’s voice.
I recently had a problem with my NAP300DR that manifested as a lack of bass and I feared the fault had re-occurred so I put on the SRV and the bass is thunderous. Then I put on the recent MoFi 2 x 45rpm of Dire Straits debut and that too has plenty of low end scale. So it has to be the vinyl. I won’t be buying another One Step. It’s nice to have a fantastic sounding LP but if the sound quality is hit and miss it’s a punt that’s too rich for my blood.

Hi Steve, I treated myself to this release at Christmas and was also very disappointed with the SQ. It is in my opinion cut far to hot with regard to Janis vocals which is a shame as it’s Janis vocals I am interested in I also agree with you regarding the lack of bass

I also reached the same conclusion as yourself and will not be buying any more MOFI One Step box sets anytime soon

Thanks for that Graham, nice to have someone concur with my findings. My old 80’s pressing sounds much better which should not be the case.

What a joy!

This gem is a family oldie and so highly recommended to give it a listen. Cuban D’Rivera is teamed up with a great selection of musicians like Toots Thielemans, Dave Weckl, Lincoln Goines, Michel Camilo a.o. for a magnificent, happy and thrilling set. My favorite, A song for Carmen (McRae).

I cannot recommend this highly enough.

Managed to locate a very decent copy.

This album got even more precious due to the nice words Herbie says about the unfortunately late Chick Corea and the laughs they both have amongst themselves and with the audience. So nice.

The gatefold with the happy couple is hysterically fun.

My local vinyl dealer has some boxes of classical vinyl in very good condition. Here is what I picked up on my latest visit last Tuesday.

Intriguing, Kevster but too bad that the p&p fees to the UK are so high, otherwise I might go for this. One release by them that I do have is the Carsten Meinert LP that they put out some years ago.

@Dynaudio1 – I think Juno here is the UK have some in stock, although it is expensive…
