What Was The Last Vinyl You Bought?

Sure, it’s Capsule records, western rd. Brighton end of town on the coast side of road.
All new, quite specialist stuff. The other good place is Resident records in the north lanes, Brighton

I’ve never seen anything like that in 50 years of buying records: warps, surface noise etc, yes, but never a licorice cough-drop embedded in the record.

Thank you, Mikee. I’ve never heard of Capsule, but will have a look.

I know, and have bought from, Resident Records.

Nice one in Lewes too, if you are ever that way

All you terrible people, trying to encourage me to spend even more of my money on records!

Is it close to Hove Town Hall?

Can you recommend any good record shops in Brighton…walking distance from the Brighton Centre area? I’m in the town this morning having caught Ricky Gervais last night. Thanks.

There are quite a few fairly close together around the Laines for both new and second-hand.
This link takes you to an article about them and there are a few local residents on this site who can probably guide you as well.

Happy shopping.

Grateful to you, will take a look.

Looks like its just the edge that hasnt been trimmed properly, bad QC but I bet it still plays fine.
Speakers Corner are usually quite good, I have that Brubeck album and mine is fine.
SC are pressed at Pallas which usually are one of the best plants, not experienced a problem myself but have read from others that Pallas have started having issues.

Unfortunately there all affected with the same fault…Miley Cyrus

Miley strikes me as a very sweet kid! Or am I missing something?

@QuickSticks @Skeptikal

As Skeptikal points out the best vinyl is the pure unadulterated variety that looks milky opaque(not to be confused with some plants who refer to virgin vinyl that means non recycled)

Black vinyl contains carbon (so not environmentally friendly btw) which is added as it strengthens and stabilises the vinyl. Coloured vinyl has the carbon substituted for useless (other than to make it look trendy/“cool”) colouring dyes which can make the vinyl formulation unpredictable when heated and pressed resulting often in noisier pressings.

Picture Discs are even worse and nice as collectors items to hang on the wall but not really as serious playing/listening copies. The playing surface is basically a laminated transfer pressed on to the vinyl.

I know some say that coloured vinyl has improved in quality but I still avoid it like the plague unless its a record I really would like . Its become a complete marketing nonsense as well imo, back in the old days a coloured vinyl edition was truly limited to very few/occasional issues, nowadays it seems like almost everything (with the exception of the quality labels) is coming out on “limited edition” coloured vinyl, the truly limited editions seem to me to be the proper black vinyl pressings.

What ever kind of vinyl it is, foreign bodies in the press are simply unacceptable.
Quality Control these days is truly shocking.
Isn’t all vinyl environmentally unfriendly Dread, as it’s an oil based product? Or do they make it out of something else these days?:man_shrugging:t2:

Having found this interesting video the other day, I thought it would be relevant to the very pressing discussions here.

Hey @QuickSticks, you avin a bad day? Just my joke.
As for pointing out about the environment aspect of vinyl production, I think you got the wrong end of the stick, it was just comment not a dig at you.
Btw there is a newish formulation out there called eco vinyl, I’ve seen one or two records listed but not heard them.
Relax man :+1:
