What Was The Last Vinyl You Bought?

Nice! :+1:t3:
I still don’t own a copy of this one.
I must get around to sourcing one soon…

The definitive version of Roger Waters “Amused to Death”. This is the 4 LP 45rpm 180g vinyl set that has been produced by Patrick Leonard and Roger Waters and mixed by James Guthrie.
Brings things out of the mix that were only hinted at in the original release. Available from Scott Nangle Audio.

Yes, but they’re 45RPM, which my LP12 just can’t do. Sadly, otherwise I’d buy the LPs like a shot.

Thanks to you all - I stood in at the last minute conducting an orchestral concert last night, and they gave me a cheque so I had an excuse to get these. The OP arrived just now, so I’m giving it a spin and it’s perfect Sunday afternoon listening. The HH album arrives tomorrow.

Maybe an opportunity to get a 45rpm adaptor or upgrade to a Radikal then.

As I recall, there used to be a Linn accessory which fitted over the drive wheel mechanism and bumped the speed up to 45RPM. Is that still available? If so, I might investigate. Although I only have a couple of 45RPM singles at the moment.

I(t would be strange to see the LP12 whizzing round a bit faster.)

(You also needed to have a second rubber belt.)

Pharoah Sanders - Africa, Tidal Waves (2019)

Only listened to side 1 of this double LP but what an opening side and what a quartet absolutely top draw.

Beautiful pressing and excellent sonics.

Valerie Simpson - Valerie Simpson, Motown (1972)

Used as packaging by the Discogs seller who sold me the Pharoah record it’s in excellent condition and is a really nice record that features Nat Adderley Jnr on piano son of Nat Adderley and nephew of Cannonball.

Yes, the 45 rpm adaptor is still a standard part, I have one in a cupboard somewhere. A quick google and prices seem to start about £10.

Graham,
This is the 45rpm adaptor which can be used on older AC motors. I just checked on the website of a well known Linn retailer, where it is listed at £38 new. I still have one somewhere, but I recall having to chop a short strip out of the o-ring to reduce the force required to slip it over the motor pulley and, thereby, avoid bearing damage.

At significantly greater expense, but offering significant sonic improvement, you might consider upgrading to a Lingo or, better still, a Radikal power supply. All of these offer 45rpm. Some Linn dealers often have pre-loved examples available as owners upgrade through the options.

Thank you for that, Clive. I (think that I) ordered two of these adapters yesterday afternoon (an extra one for my son’s planned LP12). We shall see what the postman brings.

I’ve been meaning to get one of these thingies for years - if only for the never-yet experienced cheap thrill of seeing the LP12 going round faster than ever before.

I have an Armageddon on the deck, so I wasn’t looking to replace the motor supply.

The Armageddon still holds itself up very well Graham despite what some might say

I’ve got mine on the LP12 ARO along with the superline and SCDR

It’s a great combination :+1:

I certainly won’t be rushing to change my Armageddon, Bevo.

There must be a reason for naming a TT power supply after some mythical Old Testament war to end all wars. Does anyone know if there is some sort of back story to this? Was it something to do with Julian Vereker producing his own ūberdeck after Naim’s falling out with Linn?

And am I right in thinking that the Armageddon is now discontinued?

The product history page states that it was discontinued in 2015.

Thanks, Clive, that’s a great shame for vinyl lovers out there.

I have a vague memory that this was connected with the release of the Solstice, which (of course) had its own PS. but that may be entirely wrong.

Great record, Mr Bongo did a nice job even recreating the Vertigo swirl label, I got two copies an original press costs a small fortune.

And totally agree theres far more to a good pressing than “180g vinyl”, it doesnt matter how heavy it is if its pressed on a dog turd.

Enjoy

Correct Clive

I wonder if a new classic Armageddon will ever come to fruition

Somehow I doubt it :weary:

Absolutely right, @anon44538201 :+1: This album is just fantastic though it was pressed at Optimal

Are there other Mr. Bongo Reissues you could recommend?

My retailer has 19 albums for Sale actually:
