I guess you know the band took their name from the Steely Dan track
Pub quiz favourite

And we all know how SD got their name!
Not so much a pub quiz favourite.

Yes, Deacon Blues, I think.

Not to be confused with the Edinburgh character Deacon Brodie, who has a pub in Edinburgh named after him, and who was said to be part of the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson’s ‘Dr Jekyll and Mister Hyde’.

And the oblique reference to them in Hotel California.
Maybe a Naim forum pub quiz??

My last two.

There’s a line in that song, which goes:

“They stab it with their steely knives, but they just can’t kill the beast”.

Is that what you have in mind?

Nat Birchall Unity Ensemble ft Alan Skidmore - New World, AoS. (2024)

From one of my favourite living and one of our greatest living Jazz men out March 24.

Yes, spot on

Not forgetting that, conversely, on “The Royal Scam” the Dan sang “Turn up the Eagles, the neighbours are listening”.

Great album, fantastic vinyl

I don’t know anything about this artist or album. Just arrived from my sister as a gift. Will give it a spin tomorrow as I go through mon morning work emails.

Brian Setzer (Stray Cats) was one of my favourites in early 80s and I have followed his career ever since. Below a link to his short bio

Setzer is widely credited for taking two forgotten genres, rockabilly and swing, adding his own blend of gunpowder and rockin’ style, and completely reinventing and single-handedly resurrecting them in the process.

What are the odds?! My last post was an album my sister sent me as a gift. But The Dreaming was the last vinyl I bought for my sister when she got a new Turntable.

Sadly, as with a lot of new vinyl, the sound quality is rubbish. Sounds like it was taken off of an MP3 at 97kpbs. I have a lot more luck with 50 year old discs in the bargain bin that are caked in muck until I clean them - even if they are played to death.

Clifford Brown - Memorial Album, BN/Classic Series (2024)

Killed a couple of weeks prior to his 26th birthday Clifford Brown left a massive void into which Miles stepped.

We will never know if Clifford would have gone into the heights that Miles did but prior to his death he was considered the best of his generation.

An excellent Classic Series reissue.

Bud Powell - The Anazing…. BN/Classic Series (2024)

Unfortunately another below par Optimal pressing nothing like the Clifford Brown it came with I’ll try swapping it once but in my experience these bad Optimal pressings are usually all bad.

@Bobthebuilder
He apparently had all night jam sessions and never split a note - Wow!

I’m finding a lot of variability with new recordings on vinyl. Some are excellent, and sadly, some are pretty average. Unfortunately you often only find out once you have bought it.
