I can’t say yet whether I like the music—I’ve been too lazy to clean the record before playing it for the first time.
But I find Angelo a very likeable person, and I really appreciate his effort to keep the whole recording process fully analog, from the microphone to the lacquer. (Although in my setup, it will be digitized in the Urika. )
The March Tone Poet releases are here this weekend. I’ve played them once already. The Andrew Hill is a challenging album and will need my undivided attention on the next play (tomorrow?).
I was seriously contemplating buying a Technics 1200GR, based on looks and ease of use and maintenance, but went for the Denon as I preferred the look.
I’m using the direct drive turntable a lot more than I was using the suspended sub chassis turntable. For some reason, more pleasurable to use.
Turntables should also be about the joy of ownership … and Technics and Denon seem to be nailing that
And after such awful thread drift . My last vinyl purchase
Diana Krall has been one of my favourite artists (post stroke) and I listened to this via streaming over the festive season , so definitely a vinyl purchase
Hi Robbo considering that these pressings are made from a digital file, they are absolutely fantabulous they are warm, sweet and just wrap around you. I have the KG Moondance cut which is very, very good but this one just takes it straight to the soul.
Money, Work, Death - The Space in Which The Uncontrollable Unknown Resides, Can Be The Place From Which Creation Arises, ATA Records (2021)
Spiritual Jazz ensemble from Leeds led by Neil Innes who also co owns the All Things Analogue label they have a couple of LP’s out now which are well worth checking out too.
I picked up two of my favourite Richard Ashcroft albums in HMV after work today. I was pleasantly surprised at how much selection they had on offer. It was just like old times!
Initially inspired by Coltrane’s Ballads album but Aldana was then encouraged by Don Was who produces the album to reach out to Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba to help with the arrangements. he introduced her to the Cuban Filin movement, that blends bolero and jazz harmony.
The result is an exceptional set of Ballads also featuring Cécile McLorin Salvant singing in Spanish my favourite Jazz record for a long while. I’ve only listened to the stream whilst I wait for the vinyl which was mastered by Joe Nino Hernes at Sterling who also cut the Lacquer the result is meant to be excellent. Can’t wait.
Think this would be best subject of a seperate thread. Having said that, a search of the forum will throw up countless threads about LP pressings and quality etc.
