Bought this a couple of weeks ago and today while I was playing it I held the cover up to the light and there was a scribed indentation which read To John merry Xmas Maurice and Julia it amused me because my name is John but I also thought not only have I bought a record but I have gained someone’s memory how special is that??
Yep mine arrived over the weekend, charitable cause aside I think it’s a really good compilation, sounds good too.
Fed Ex ahead of schedule by Two days.
Fleetwood Mac 45rpm one Step 2LP. 2167 of 7500 And Lionel Richie Can’t slow down one step 846 of 3000.

Shabaka - Of The Earth, Shabaka Records (2026)
Shabaka writes, plays all the instruments on and produces this his third solo record it is also the first release on his own label Shabaka Records. Most notable is his return to playing saxophone after three years but he still plays different flutes and traditional instruments and also uses several electronic instruments to make what is another exceptional set of songs.
Unfortunately many of his previous recordings haven’t been mastered or pressed very well on vinyl I still can’t find a copy of Wisdom Of The Elders that doesn’t sound horrible and it isn’t just Brownswood Recordings that are guilty of releasing sub par vinyls of this man’s incredible music Impulse too are just as guilty all of their Shabaka And The Ancestors, Sons of Kemet and Shabaka vinyl releases are not great, The Comet is Coming fairs slightly better probably as it is predominantly Electronic Music. In fact if possible his whole catalogue wood really benefit from and fully deserves a AAA overhaul.
Luckily completely in his own hands Of The Earth sounds excellent I’m not sure if he personally chose Benjamin Tierney to master and Beau Thomas to cut the record they are two names new to me but they have done an excellent job.
Lamb of God : Into Oblivion
That is one slamming album, short but maybe the better for that. No fat on it and some of their best stuff in a while. Randy Blythe sounds mightily pee’d off
Some nice groove in there as well. I like it a lot
The very Brazilian Harlequin is spinning now and sounding good!
Looking forward to JT and Osibisa (one of my childhood favs)
It’s great isn’t it. But also agree about previous releases being poorly mastered and pressed. I find Impulse’s stuff to be abject.
Pharoah Sanders - Elevation, Impulse (2026)
This is my first Verve Vault Series release cut by Ryan K Smith at Sterling Sound and pressed at Optimal and I have to say it’s first rate remastering, pressing and presentation are all excellent.
Joe Henderson Quartets - Tetragon, Milestone/Jazz Dispensary (2026)
Cut by KG at Cohearant and pressed at the new Mobile Fidelity pressing plant Fidelity Record Pressing built and run by father and son Rick Hashimoto and Edward Hashimoto in Oxnard, CA. It sounds exceptional I’m pleased to say.
Unfortunately, I can’t play the whole album through as my dog starts howling when the Sax gets a bit excited so have to turn those bits down. For a long length record it plays very well.
Brilliant a Jazz loving dog you could make a couple of quid on YouTube!
