I just put an unused Neotech 1008 between router and another switch before it goes to Furutech LAN8 PLUS and onto Ansuz D2, Sigma and NSS333. We’ll see how and if something changes.
How do you rate the Neotech?
I just looked it up in the “NEET-1008 Neotech Ethernet RJ45 Cable” Thread but it was closed before you commented on your experience with it.
Long time since I listened to it. For the price of it (and likely up to double its price) I think it is one of the best ethernet cables out there. Audiophonics sells them at a pretty good price.
Is it PRaTty? Overall I don’t like cables or equipment that are too relaxed.
Yes, having been down that rabbit hole, I’ve settled on optical Ethernet with my KDSM. It took a while to find the right combination. optical always sounded like it had potential but I found I kept coming back to the PhoenixNET.
In my system, the PhoenixNET sounded best when kept on the house ring rather than on the Hi-Fi radial. Unshielded BJC cable was used to prevent any unintended ground loops.
The final piece of the optical puzzle was the ADOT single fibre kit and iFi power 2. I moved the PhoenixNET on and have not fiddled with this part of the system since.
I would not put it in the relaxed category. It has speed, transparency, detail, bandwidth.
I give a try to axxess ethernet, listening for two hours now, first impressions are: no more edgy, transparent, 3-D effect way more natural. I was often close to something live but now, I touch it.
Voices (Magdalena Kozenā, Dorothea Rüschmann, Alanis Morissette) the best l’ve never heard with my kit.
Listen to Friday night in San Fransico (De Lucia, Di Meola, McLaughlin) to hear the drive it brings.
If you’re looking for something between Cinnemon And Vodka, try it.
For me it doesn’t matter. Tidal plays natively on my streamer/amp, so the ethernet cable is just transferring data files from my router. Whatever was laying around that was the right length.
Any decent well made generic cable and a reduction in expectation bias is the answer.
Router > Sigma > Phoenixnet > Omega.
Before that I had
Router > Diamond > Phoenixnet > Sigma
Omega gives massive bass and open soundstage. Sigma before gives wonderful organic and natural layering.
I tried Omega without Sigma and it didn’t gel in the same way!
How is this? The streamer plays from buffer, not directly from the switch. Even assuming that another switch is “faster”, so long as there isn’t jitter or noise being introduced to the streamer, wouldn’t the “speed” be irrelevent?
This has come up many times and I think is more about the ‘perception’ of timing. If I listen to the stock Chord SMPS on my EE8 compared to my LPS, the SMPS seems faster and more dynamic, where the LPS sounds slower and calmer. With ethernet cables, when you get a slight drop in noise, it often sharpens the start and stop of notes, which seems to translate as slightly better timing.
